Not sure where to go from here!!

Hi, ladies, I've been in the 'trying for a baby' forum for nearly 14 months now image I know my age (40) can affect fertility but I honestly don't feel my age and just didn't contemplate not being pregnant by now! The problem is I don't even think hubby is bothered about another child (he is 41 and has 2 boys from his previous marriage, ages 16 and 11) but I am really starting to worry I've left it too late and will end up regreting not trying sooner but the time never seemed right until Sept'11 when I decided to come off the pill!!

I have a wonderful son who is nearly 9 who was a wonderful accident but I really wanted to have a baby with my hubby of 3 years.just wondered if there were any ladies out there in a similar situation.

Af arrived today so feeling pretty downimage

xx

  • Hi Carioke, I was like you, I always thought it would just happen. I started to try when I was 36 and never ever thought it would be a problem. I am very active, ppl always comment on how young I look, had a very clean healthy lifestyle etc and have a son from previous marriage so when we started to ttc I was convinced it will happen straight away.

But it didn't, after six months I fell pg and then had a early mc. And then it just wouldnt happen. Seen a doctor and my blood tests came back ok, my husbands results came back ok and I was in the limbo.

I know how it feels, I really, realy wanted to have a baby with my husband who I absolutlely adore and although he also wanted us to have a baby his opinion was that our relationship came before anything and if it didn't happen he could live with that, where I found it hard to contemplate our life without a baby.

I was lucky that we moved overseas and was seen by gynea there. They've dicovered I had endometriosis and I had a surgery to remove it, endo can interfiere with conception, although my tubes were clear and ovaries were perfect. I was then put on Clomid but no sucess. Anyway we moved back to UK and went off on holiday and we got back with a little surprise.

Still early days but I can't belive it happened in the end naturally. My husband is totally over the moon and his reaction had surprised me, but I think men sometimes don't show as much emotion when it comes to ttc.

I just realised this is really long. But my advice would be that you do go and see a doctor asap if you haven't already. You might just need a little kick start, friend of mine found out she had a slight hormonal inbalance  which was corrected with pills and fell pg soon after.

I only got here after nearly three years and I know time is precious when you are in the certain age bracket.

Hope it happens very soon for you image Good luck and ((hug))

  • Thanks so much for replying May13 and congratulations, you must be so happy?

I never felt pushed to go to the docs because I was regular every month but when I went after 9 months she said stop worrying, just relax and keep trying. After a year (sept) the doc said ok to start testing which I haven't done yet because I dislocated my knee nearly 2 months ago so we have enough on our plate with that! we actually managed to dtd on cd 20 when I felt ov was on it's way! when Af came yesterday hubby just said at the moment it's not meant to be and things happen for a reason. But I am itching to get the ball rolling just in case there is something wrong!

    xx

  • I would definitely get the ball rolling, having gone through lots of tests when trying for my son I know that everything takes such a long time and you are forever waiting for appointments and results! Me and hubby both came out with probems, but we managed it naturally whilst waiting for IVF! There is probably nothing wrong but its always good to know where you stand. Good luck!! x

  • Thankyou magpie, so glad you managed to get pg naturally!

I'm going to do a full month of charting this month just to see. I've already realised my period is quite light and is only lasting  a couple of days  and my temp seems a bit high for the start of my cycle (36.6) so already I'm thinking is something wrong!!

I never wanted to become obsessed with it all because I always knew 'trying' too much could affect things but it do find it all really interesting; I've never known so much about the menstrual cycle!!image

I'm just not sure if hubby is willing to go for the testing at the moment; he's really busy at work, looking after me and the house and taking me to physio appointments.

I'll get the forms and see what he saysimage

    thanks again xx

  • Thank you, I was so shocked as I had really given up hope of it happening naturally. The fertility specialist had told us it was extremely unlikely!

When you have been trying a long time it is so hard not to be obsessed. It took over my every waking thought, and I wasn't a very nice person for a while! But that's the strength of mother nature I guess! It was the month that we stopped trying because we were waiting for IVF that we got pregnant though, so there may be something in the relaxed approach, so much easier said than done!!

Maybe you could get a few tests first if hubby's not keen, then you will at least have the reassurance all is good with you or if not you could start making some positive steps for you xx
  • When you say you stopped trying-what do you mean because that's how I felt last month as when we managed to dtd on cd 20 I thought I may have missed ov anyway so felt quite relaxed and not thinking about ttc,It was just nice to be close to dh after my accident. obviously didn't work for me.

Anyway, I've got an app at the docs on friday and see what she says. I have been temping this (first time) just to have something to show doc and I have already noticed my temps are quite high for the start of my cycleimage

    xx

  • Maybe you did just miss ov that time. Because we thought there was no natural chance and we had a month for IVF I think we went back to just dtd when we wanted, like you say not thinking about ttc or doing it on the right day. I didn't even test until I was about 6 weeks pregnant because I wasn't even thinking about it!

I hope your appointment goes well on Friday, definitely good that you have some info to show them. I never did temping so not sure what that could mean but hopefully all will be well xx
  • Thanks Magpie, I suppose with being off work I do have too much time to think!

    take care xx

  • Hi carioke, do you mean you only dtd once that month? I think even if you try And relax to have a good chance you need to be dtd every other day!
  • Hi rosebud, we dtd cd20, 22 and 23, I know I prob missed it but I did have some ewcm and felt like dtd image on cd 20 which made me think it was my fertile time!

  • Ah it's so hard isn't it really just a guessing game, I would go docs to put your mind at ease it will make you feel better that your doing something thrn it might happen naturally xx
  • It is hard rosebud but the couple of times I've been to the docs they've made me feel as If I'm being silly and tell me to stop worrying ( I only worry when af arrives each month) other than that I'm quite relaxed and positive and never say to hubby we must dtd now!!! He might like that actually!image

    xx

  • They shouldn't make you feel like that! Especially as your older( not being rude!) I would go back and start having bloods done etc if you are serious about another baby, I'm 27 hub 30 and they have taken us seriously so they should with you it's so frustrating xx
  • Thanks rosebud, you're right! Thay do need to take my concerns seriously now and like you say especially with me being older! Times running out!!!

Where are you at now? xx

  • We have been referred to a urologyst for my hub the problem is with him, he's been taking loads of vitamins so hopefully that will help xx
  • good luck! xx
