Have an appointment with gynecology

As some of you may remember I have recently be told I have PCOS. Well my appointmet for the hospital has come through for 16th April, so not long. I am a little confused as they are sending me to gynecology and I thought they would send me to fertility? I am wrong? Can anyone share there experiences and what I can expect from my first apponitment.

Thanks Ladies xx

  • I'm under gyne as well. In our area gyne does all fertility issues related to the female and also arrange all the intial male testing as well.

My 1st appointment they booked me in for an HSG to check tubes and an SA for hubby.
I'd already had a scan that showed PCOS and had bloods etc done so they didn't do these again.

I'd imagine if u haven't had anything done ie scans they'll arrange this for u.

Good luck hope it all goes well.

  • Not sure, but I'd guess they'd have the facilities needed to check you out.
My first appt was to have internal and appts for bloods and arrange a HSG. Later on I had scans for PCOS.
Step by step! Good luck with your appt!

  • Hi looby,

Werid isnt it how everybody has done things different ways around..

I also have PCOS, i have known about it for years but obviously it wasnt too much of a problem all the time i wasnt trying for a baby (now i wish id started trying earlier!)

Anyway, me and OH have now had all tests/ scans/ bloods etc just waiting for a fertility appointment on the 9th to discuss the results and what treatments/ medication they can recommend.. fingers crossed.

Hope you get some answers soon,

    Gemma x
  • Thanks ladies,
I have had a scan and blood tests already so I guess they may test dh next. Can anyone tell me what the HSG test involves?
  • I had my HSG on friday and personally i found it horrible.
Many women say that its just like a smear and just uncomforable but it really hurt me.

First they ask you to get changed into a gown and lay on your side on the bed. Then they insert a speclum into your vaginal and clean inside, that felt strange. Then the doctor inserted a tube and then a catheter into my cervix, again this was ok. Then they inflate a baloon in your womb, this really hurt, my stomach was cramping, and then they started injecting the dye again this was really painful.
Then they move a x ray device over my abdo and started taking pictures.

The doctor said one tube is all ok and he thinks the other is but he cant be 100% because they couldnt put any more dye in due to the pain. The nurse told me though that when the dr thinks, he knows. So thats good!

If anyone has to have one of these please dont worry. Its fine for most women this was just my experience xxxx
