PCOS and anxiety????

Hi Ladies,

Haven't posted in this forum before but we've been trying for nearly 3yrs for another much longed for baby, fell with my first little jellybean on clomid but sadly miscarried, fell for my second with clomid and have a gorgeous 4yr old and fell for my third with a little miracle naturally and have a gorgeous 3 year old. I suffer from PCOS and endometriosis, so I hope you don't mind me joining you.

I was just wandering if anyone knew if Anxiety is a symptom of PCOS??? I've had the PCOS for years but specialist has only ever really explained the fertility aspect of it.

I'm not usually one to suffer with anxiety, am the sort of person that just gets on with things, but I'm really struggling at the mo !!

  • Hi Amanda, sorry to hear you're having trouble ttc.

I don't have any answers for you re PCOS but I'm sure the others do. Have you tried googling the symptoms?

    xx
  • Hi Mrs Hopeful,

Do you know, I didn't even think of that, what a spanner !!!!!

Will go and do it now, thanks so much for replying xx
  • Hi honey i suffer from PCOS too i found this for you to do with the anxiety being a symptom:

"PCOS also has a complex relationship to depression and anxiety. Depression is not considered a symptom of PCOS per se, but the range of physical, cosmetic and physiological symptoms experienced by PCOS sufferers present a suite of underlying causes. In some women, correction of insulin-related problems through diet, exercise and medication help to alleviate depression and anxiety."

So there is a connection there. If you are worried or want more answers i'd go back to your GP/consultant and ask them to explain things.

  • Thanks so much Lilac, you're a star !!!!!!

Will definately go and speak to someone as I hate feeling like this, I've always suffered with the weight problems and lately, i could get a job with a travelling circus as the bearded lady, but don't think I could cope with anxiety as well !!!!!!!!

Thanks again for your help xxx
  • I think BE ate my reply !!
  • Hey Amanda

I guess that you might benfit from metformin which helps to stabilise insulin and blood sugar. Why metformin works on PCOS is not well understood it is a drug for diabetes. Clomid doesnt treat the PCOS it just makes you ovulate

If you have facial hair coudl you use that symptom as well as the weight gain and anxiety to appeal for treatment? Perhaps a female GP might be more liekly to help??

    Hoep this helps
  • Thanks J-Jenko,

Am on Metformin at the mo and although it has helped regulate my cycle, it's having no effect with the weight gain or any of the other symptoms.

You know what it's like, just wish they could make a magic pill to make everything ok !!!!!!!

Thanks for replying, means so much to have ladies that understand to talk to x
