Partial Molar Pregnancy?

Hi there,

I had a scan at 13 weeks and discovered our baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. We were devestated and opted to wait to see if the miscarriage would happen naturally. I had a small amount of bleeding and another scan the next week and the baby had gone and the sac was misshapen. We were told that it meant that it would happen naturally soon. We had another scan booked for 2 weeks later (the day before yesterday) the sonographer didnt say much just that there was a large sac and we were told to wait for the nurse to come and speak to us.

We waited half an hour or so and the nurse came and took us into a room and explained there was a grape like mass in my womb and we would have to go to see a consultant who had fitted us in there and then.

We went up to see the consultant and she explained that she suspects a molar pregnancy, because there was what looked like a foetus on the first scan it was a partial molar. She then booked me in for the operation to remove the tissue first thing in the morning.

Yesterday after the operation the surgeon came to speak to me and said that she suspects after looking a the tissue that the pregnancy is molar but we have to wait for the results to come back, she sent them as urgent so we should hear something in the next few days.

Has anyone else had a molar pregnancy? What happens next if it is? The doctors were reluctant to say anything they said they didnt want to worry me until they had to, which worries me more.

I feel like i haven't grieved yet, i have a 3 year old son so i haven't cried because i dont want him to see me upset, i feel like ive held it in so long i cant anymore.

I feel empty and worried and in the dark a bit really about whats going on. Sorry i didn't mean this to turn out to be such a long post!

Hi Rainbowshoes. Sorry to hear that this is happening to you. The consultants probably want to have all the results back so that they can talk you though everything and things going forward without causing you undue stress.

Try not to over worry until they come back to you. I'm sure that they'll be able to put you in touch with a support group at the same time.

I was diagnosed with a partial molar last month after an erpknown 11th April. I had had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks, baby measured 10+. I'm currently under the care of charing cross hospital (one of 3 specialist hosps that deal with molar pregnancys). I have blood tests every 2 weeks until I hit negative (below 5). I'm currently at 14. I can't ttc for 6 months after I get negative as the molar tissue can regrow. There's lots of info on charing cross hosp website. X
