Am I Pregnant After My Molar Pregnancy

Hey. I was told at my 12week scan(7th december) that there was no heartbeat. 5weeks on I was told that I had actually had a partial molar pregnancy, not a miscarriage.  That was a shock as I had never even heard of it before. After sending away bloods and urine sample, my results were back to satisfactory. Before I was told about my PMP, my husband and I had started TTC again. I had 1 normal period 4weeks after my D&C + I was feeling ok. Saturday just passed, I started feeling sick, hot flushes etc then on Sunday woke up to alot of heavy red bleeding! My periods arent due for atleast a week bt I dnt knw if my periods are maybe jst all over the place after my d&c. However,  since yesterday ive been having VERY bad lower back pain and womb pain. Been feeling sickly and my bleeding is just lots of bright red blood. Is this maybe implantation bleeding? Ive had a metallic taste in my mouth, things are tasting weird and ive been getting indigestion.  Any help??? Im soo confused and abit scared :(

Thanks

Kerry

  • Hi Kerry, I just found your post after searching for "molar pregnancy". I have just found out after a couple of early scans that my missed miscarriage is actually a molar pregnancy. i would be really grateful if you could tell me a bit about your experience of it. I haven't had it removed yet.

    Are you pregnant?

  • Hi Sarah! Im not currently pregnant(that I know of) Gonna test in a few days.  Just got the all clear from my partial molar pregnancy follow up. Although my husband and I had tried before our followup was complete, as we didnt know we shouldnt have been trying.  Our partial molar pregnancy was soooo stressful! But now I feel that chapter has closed and now looking ahead and thinking positive.  Was it a complete or partial molar pregnancy you had? Xxxx

  • Hi Kerry,

That's good news that you aren't pregnant, I have heard it can be dangerous after molar pregnancy. How long have you been told to wait?

Mine is a partial molar too. I am having it removed on Thursday and have been told I have to wait 5-6 weeks to confirm it was molar.

How long was your follow up? Did you have to send urine samples in the post?

Good news that you are now able to move on X X X

  • My husband and I am trying to conceive at the moment. We are from Aberdeen.and travelled down to Dundee last Tuesday fir a drop in session, where we got to meet other families and the specialists. It was fantastic and VERY interesting! Only 160 cases of molar pregnancy were diagnosed last year out of the WHOLE of the Uk. Crazy stuff, sooo rare! I was told its ok to get pregnant soon after with a Partial molar pregnancy. The only thing is, you will be monitored more, with early scans etc.  I had my PMP removed on 8th December and my follow up was completed this week. From the date of diagnosis, it was 8weeks. Yes, I had to send urine and bloods. Once when I was first diagnosed then 4weeks after. They didnt diagnose PMP at my scan. Was just told there was no heartbeat. No symptoms what so ever though! Xxxx

  • Also, we have been given the all clear to ttc again. After your follow up, you only have to wait if you have had a Complete molar pregnancy.  If you have a complete molar pregnancy, you have to wait 6months from your first normal urine/blood sample. So im sooo glad I had a partial instead, as you get the go ahead straight after! Xxx

  • Only 160 cases in the uk- that's crazy! I heard it was 1/1000 but surely it's rarer than that. Last year I found out my doctor had perforated my uterus when inserting my coil. Over time it travelled up into my abdomen. I had to have it surgically removed. Apparently the chances of that happening are 1/1000 too. I have bought a lottery ticket this week! image

I feel a bit reassured after reading your messages, thank you. Fingers crossed they are right and I have a PMP too. It will be reassuring to be monitored at bit more closely next time we are pregnant. I have heard it is unlikely to have a second molar pregnancy.

Good luck, I hope you get your bfp very soon X X X

  • Yeh. The specialists told me out of all the cases they have seen over the years, only 5 women went on to have a second molar pregnancy.  Keep positive hun! And keep me posted on how you get on! I know how crazy? At first I was like " what I was pg then was told I had miscarried and now its a partial molar pg which can turn cancerous???" Its crazy thinking trying for a baby could result in something crazy like that.  When I first got told about my PMP and I got all the leaflets through. ..I was petrified.  I thought I had cancer and I was devastated! Since December, our life has been a roller coaster of emotions but my little man(my sons who's away to turn 5yrs) kept me sane and positive. Any questions you have Sarah, let me know :D All the the best hun xxxxc

  • Only 5 repeat molars is good odds! Do you know any figures for how many cases did turn out to be cancerous? I'm not too clear on the link to be honest.

    It is such a rollercoaster!

I haven't told many people either (particularly at work) so I'm just trying to get on with things but my brain is so frazzled trying to process everything which is going on (the hormones don't help!). I feel a bit like I'm going mad.

Thats great that you have a son, i think all of this would be so much more difficult if I didn't already have my daughter (she has just turned 2). its hard to feel down with little ones around isn't it?!

I would really like to stay in touch, I know you totally understand what it's like to go through all of this x x x

  • Hello everybody! Just come across this thread and just wanted to tell you all that it's okay!

I gave birth to my first son in October 2014, fell pregnant again in Jan/Feb 2015..which I misscarried in March 2015 at 7 wks 5 days and ending up being a partial molar pregnancy which I found out end of March.

They told me to do blood tests and send urine samples off to Sheffield hospital every two weeks and not to try get pregnant until advised I could. I got pregnant in October 2015 without any advise it just happened and went for a reassurance scan at 7 weeks to see ifor everything was fine and I was carrying identical twins. Pregnancy was fine. Labour and birth was fine..born on 16th June 2016 9 minutes apart. Been no further concerns over partial molar pregnancy and I am now pregnant again! 9 weeks gone!😍😘😍😘😍

  • Hi everyone.  Havent posted on here for a long time but thought now is the right time.  As I said earlier, I had  partial molar pregnancy December 2015 and after my follow up was complete, I fell pregnant again quickly.  April 2016 I was rushed into hospital to find out I had an ectopic.  I was devastated and felt as though the world was against my husband and I.  In late June, I fell pregnant again. I was excited and scared at the same time.  Now I am sitting here with my amazing 4week old daughter.  It was hard because I never got to enjoy my pregnancy as much as I wanted.  I always had the fear in my head. But I want you all to know that you need to stay positive.  After two loses, I couldn't be more thankful and blessed to have an amazing 6year old son and his beautiful baby sister.  All the best to you all.  Kerry xx

  • That's such lovely news Kerry, congratulations! What's your daughter called? So good to hear of this positive outcome after all your heartache.

My miscarraige turned out not to be molar but it was an ordeal and I had to have two surgical removals and had bleeding for a long time after. We only started to try again in January this year. I found out last week that I am pregnant and was over the moon but now I'm freaking out and convinced I'm going to loose it.

I did a clear blue digital last Friday which said i was 2-3 weeks and I just did another for some reassurance and it still says 2-3. I've just bought another one and will wait until Sunday am to test. Hoping so much that it moves to 3+.
