A number of unknown and known factors also cause miscarriage.

Genetic or Hereditary Factors: About 50 percent of all miscarriages can be attributed to the genetic disposition of the occurring mother.
Immunological factors: Some women have antibodies in their blood that attack their own cells. Some of these antibodies invade the placenta or promote the formation of a blood clot, which affects the development of the fetus and eventually causes miscarriage.
Physiological factors: Some women have a septum, or walls, in their womb, and some may develop fibroids that can obstruct the space in the womb necessary for the development of the fetus.
Infection: An infection caused by bacteria, viruses or another parasite can also lead to miscarriage, although such cases are rare.
Hormonal imbalance: Certain hormones help the placenta to thrive by providing an environment and if an imbalance occurs, it can also lead to miscarriage. It is thus advised that women with complications in menstruation (irregular periods, endometriosis, PCOD, etc.) are advised to take extra precautions as their vulnerability to them is high.
