My birth story - also in due in Aug

Hi!! Been meaning to post my birth story for ages but havent due to a combination of lack of time and also had a fairly traumatic birth and needed to get my head round it all first! Anyway here goes, may be worth getting yourself a cup of tea....

On the 3rd Aug we were admitted into hospital for a planned induction - due to unstable blood pressure and episodes of reduced movements. Was the wierdest feeling ever knowing we were going to be induced and would be meeting our baby soon!! We hadnt found out the sex and I was feeling so exited and also scared!! I had a sweep on the Thurs before and had been showing signs of early labour all weekend & had period type pains constantly. We arrived @ 8am and surprise surprise my BP was high so they insisted on monitoring me before they did anything, at about 10am they decided to put the tablet behind my cervix, they said I would prob need 2 or 3 to kickstart things, left the delviery unit to go for a walk & breakfast - werent allowed to leave the hospital grounds though!! After about half an hour my period pains increased and by 11-30am I was having regular pains!! We went back to delivery and told the midwife that I was having reg contractions, she said that they would just be tighteneings but would put me on the monitor and examine me, she was very shocked that I was right and I was having contractions, she then examined me and I was dilated enough for her to break my waters!! Started using my TENS which def helped in early stages. From then they put the drip in and things really stepped up, contractions got more frequent & painful, baby was back to back which made the pain more intense, midwife suggested an epidural as was stuck to bed on monitors and drip anyway, initally I wanted a pain free water birth but as this had all gone out of the window I agreed for the ep, it took over an hour to get it in as I have a "bony back!!" and then.... it didnt work!!!!!!! Was so upset as had no pain relief whilst they were putting it in and had laid still for the whole time which wasnt easy!!! I then had some gas & air then pethadine and a few hours later (hazy on time scales now!!) they decided to try an epidural again, a lovely man did a spinal block then got the epidural in straight away!! The relief was amazing and I'm really pleased I had one as gave me a chance to rest. I was examined regularly and was making great progress, at 2am I was 91/2 cm dilated and thought the end was in sight!!! Then it went pete tong!!! I didnt dilate any further due to a lip on my cervix, babys heartrate then kept dipping with every contraction, an emerg c-sect was disuccsed as a possibilty - due to this they didnt top up my epidural so pain increased, baby had moved into correct position and then the consulatant managed to move the lip. Prior to this the delivery room had been very relaxed, dim lighting etc, it suddenly became so clinical with loads of people, bright lights and me in stirrups!! The 2nd stage happened very quickly and I had an episotomy, they tried ventouse but that failed and then they delivered our beautiful baby girl by forceps!! It was the most amazing moment of my life, she was laid on my tummy and we saw she was a girl!! I was ecstatic as really wanted a pink one!! She was then whisked away by the baby dr who gave her a clean bill of health and she was handed to a very proud Daddy image
Ruby Mae Rose W**** was born on the 4th Aug at 8.10am weighing 7lb 4oz, she was really badly bruised from the forceps but so beautiful with loads of dark hair!!
Meanwhile I was still in stirrups and it took forever to stich me back together, once this was done they sat me up and I had a huge whitey!! My BP crashed and pulse went really high, have no memory of this which is prob a good thing but later found out I had lost over 3 litres of blood. Was eventually transfered to high dependency unit and given a total of 4 blood transfusions,
The next few days are very hazy as was on a lot of pain relief and was bed ridden, I had some complications and lots of pain from having SPD and being in stirrups for so long. The midwifes were amazing and I managed to breast feed with their help - they would lift her out of cot, put her back in, change her bum etc! If it wasnt for their fantastic support there is no way I would of been able to feed her.
After a few days I was finally allowed up, very weird using my legs again but bliss to have a shower!! Think it was that day that it was discovered I had an episotomy infection, this got bad and my stiches broke down, also Ruby got really bad jaunduce, this then affected her blood sugar and she got tremors and would not respond or wake up, my milk also came in and I was an emotional wreck!! The staff were really supportive and put us in a private room which was brilliant as the ward was so noisy!!
Ruby was given high sugar prem milk to increase her blood sugar and was put on bili blanket for jaunduce.
After a real rollercoaster we were finally released after a week!! Since then my wound is still open and I now have a further infection, I was readmitted as they were going to resuture it but after starving me for hours they decided to let it heal naturally! I now have weekly check ups and swabs taken, it is healing but is very slow process and I may well need surgery later on.
Ruby is doing really well, she really didnt have an easy start but is putting lots of weight on and is such a little star!! She was diagnosed with tongue tie and had that released last week and has got to see a specialist this week as her skin is very mottled at times,
Despite everything that has happended to us in having probs getting pregnant, pregnancy, labour and since I am really happy!!!! I so love being a mummy, some days I have really struggled and felt that it isnt right that we have had so many probs and feel sorry for myself, but then I look at our beautiful girl and realise she is so worth it all!! it hasnt put me of having any more children but would be nervous about history repeating itself.
Hope I havent scared anyone, despite the complications it was the most amazing experience of my life and I feel that what has really pulled me thorugh is the amazing support from hubby, family, friends & professionals.. and little Ruby!!
