Water Babies

Hi ladies

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of doing a swimming course with Water Babies? ( http://www.waterbabies.co.uk/index.php ) It's quite expensive compared to just a course run by the local leisure centre but it looks really good. And they do special classes for babies under 12 weeks/lbs in hydrotherapy pools in some areas so they don't get too cold, which would be ideal for Olyvia as she's only 7lb 9oz still.

I can't wait to take Lyvi swimming and really hope we can get on one of these courses. Got to order her a mini wetsuit now!! Finally found somewhere that does premature/tiny baby size so hopefully it fits her!

  • i have been looking into this but have been told i shouldnt be taking him swimming until hes had all his jabs, which seems odd that they would do classes if thats the case

  • Who told you that?

I asked the HV and she said it's ok to go after 1st jabs and on the WB website it says you can start anytime: http://www.waterbabies.co.uk/immunisations.php

It also says on there that the official NHS guidelines say you can go anytime!

  • our hv said complete set!! we have his first jabs on monday and the course starts next week, will have to get a move and and book it!!
  • g/c Ignore silly HV that old wives tale relates back to times polio was prevelant in society! I took my son from around 3/4mths old and he loves it!
  • The book the hv gave me says you can go before they've had any jabs. We took Oliver last weekend at nearly 8 weeks and he was fine. We will be going again tomorrow and he doesn't have his forst jabs til Monday.
  • I bought Sasha a wet suit today at the Baby Show so am going to try and take her pretty soon, she is 1 month today.
  • G/C from Born in September, but my little man is starting a Water Babies course next Saturday so I can let you know what it's like! I've heard nothing but good things about it. And you definitely don't need to have all the jabs done, even though lots of people still think this.

  • I took Ellie to water babies from 10 weeks old (not due to going after jabs but that was when course started fell) Anyway she loved it and I did it for a full year. I didn't carry on as I went back to work and being a nurse doing shift work I couldn't always get the same day off each week. Plus at 1 year we had to change to a different venue which wasn't ideal for me. Ellie really enjoyed it and I think it was well worth the money I spent on it for a year. I was thinking of taking William but as I have done it with Ellie and know the basics of dunking them under the water and just getting them water confident I might not bother and just take him to a local pool.

I really do recommend waterbabies as I think they're great and if you get the chance to do the underwater photo's then I would go for it. Unfortunately Ellie was poorly at the time so we never did but they look great and are a great memory for the future. Ellie now hasn't been in a pool for a few months but she keeps asking me to go swimming so I must get organised and get William a wetsuit and head to the pool!!!

have you managed to get her on a course, they dont have space for us until may :\(
  • Yes, managed to book us onto a course that starts THIS SUNDAY!! image

Our closest hydro pool one was booked up so have to travel a bit further but hopefully it'll be worth it. Very excited! And next term we can go to a normal pool which is a bit closer.

Sorry you have to wait till May Becca :\(

  • Elysa has been swimming every friday since she was 4 months old at our local pool. They won't let you on the courses until the babies have had their jabs. She has always loved it and I can't wait to take Sebastian.

The Water Babies courses are more expensive but because they tend to use private pools the water is generally warmer whch is better when they are small.

Your little ones will love it.
  • We can start Water Babies locally on 28th March, but i've promised Daddy we will wait to start swimming till he comes home in May. So think we'll be doing the summer term. Don't want Daddy to miss out on too many firsts.
  • Just to update - my LO just had his first lesson and it was great! Daddy was with him in the water while I watched. It's so cute watching them, and I was very impressed that he was happy the whole way through, even when they make them swim underwater! You'll love it NattyNik xx
