Meningitis

My mum has my three year old daughter over for the night most Fridays but has rung me this morning saying that a lady who works with my dad was pooly last week, she thought she had bad flu and was off for a few days but then got better on her own, she lived with her 26 year old nephew who felt poorly yesterday morning and was rushed into hospital and then died the same day. I'm now terified about my daughter going to her nan's and grandads now in case it has been passed on, I know the chance of catching it is small, my husband thinks I'm over reacting and I probably am but I'm just really worried now.

  • Omg that's a shocker! I would be the same as you, things like this worry me. Can you call your GP and talk to them about it? Hopefully put your mind at ease xx

  • I rung NHS direct and they couldn't tell me much without knowing the strain of the disease. My daughter had has the jabs but it only protects against the bactirial form of the C strain not the B strain which is as common. It sound like the guy had the viral type that comes as a complication from a viral infection and isn't contagious but don't know for sure. I kept her with me last weekend just to be safe. Symptoms show in 3-5 days so if he's ok she can go next weekend.
