Car seats - big babies!

Hey ladies,

Hope you are all well!?7

Has any of your LO's grown out of there carry car seats yet? Seth is getting so big (i'm guessing 19lb ish) now and he is so tightly pushed into his car seat. I know they cannot go into forward facing yet and nor would i want him to but just wondered whether anyone has bought the next size one and have it rear facing yet?

  • I just ordered the Concord Ultimax, it's not very big in this country but i've heard nothing but great reviews for it. It can also stay rear facing for up to 18 months old then goes forward facing until 4.

    It should arrive tomorrow :\)
  • Just wanted to add this video about rear facing car seats. The crash footage made me feel sick :\(

  • As long as the weight isn't over the recommended, my Maxi Cosi is 13kg = 28lb and their head isn't over the end, then they are safe. I leave my car seat in the car and just carry Isabelle now, as it was getting impossible with the changing bag and James in tow!
I'm keeping an eye on car seats as James will still need to be in his car seat until he's approx. 4yrs, so will have to buy another one. I can highly recommend the Maxi Cosi Tobi for the next stage x
  • I am having a similar problem in that my 5 month old son already weighs 18lbs and is very tall (DH is 6ft 5!). I have been looking at rear facing car seats that can be turned around to forward facing such as the Britax and the Concord but they all state that they have to be turned around to face forward from about 13kg!! My Maxi Cosi goes up to 13kg anyway, so I think I will have to keep wedging him into the seat until his head reaches the top then just get him a forward facing one.
  • Oh god yeah, i gave up trying to carry Seth in his from about 8 weeks!! lol
Well we have adjusted the head support to the highest setting now so as soon as he out grows that i guess it will be a new one. Want to keep him in rear facing as long as possible and the 0+ ones that do rear and forward facing up to 4 years do look the way forward. Dont think this one is gonna last until he is old enough and stable enough to go forward facing!! image
    He is growing to fast!!

  • Dylan has a Graco car seat which was part of my pram travel system and his arms look a bit squashed in it (he only weighs 17lb 3 and this car seat claims to go up to 13kg - there is no way he'll fit in it for much longer). We have just been given a Britax First Class car seat from oh's uncle (so I know its not been involved in any crashes and is completely safe) and that is both rear and forward facing. I've tried Dylan in it and he seems so much more comfortable, it also reclines slightly.

  • Have you seen the report that says we should keep our LOs in rear facing car seats until they are 4? There's some info about it here

  • I've been looking at car seats for ages now and just can't decide what to get! I did my neck and shoulder the other week carrying Caden, so now it stays in the car. Poor thing looks so crammed in it.

I've heard about how they should be rear facing till four, where would there legs go tho?

  • I dont know what to do..mylie is so heavy and i cant park my car right at my door so ive had to start popping it on the wheels just to take her to the car. We have been looking around at front facing seats but after watching that video on you-tube im not so sure!? Hmm xx
