Any one here a 'larger lady?'

I was going to write 'fatty' which is probably how I'd refer to myself but don't want to offend anyone.

After reading a few other threads, it sounds like there are a lot of skinny ladies on here so I wondered if there were any bigger girls who wanted to support each other? I may, of course, be on my own with this one...

I wasn't exactly slim when I got pg with #1 (a big 14) but put on over 4 stone and hadn't lost all that when I got pregnant again this time (still 1.5 to go!) So I am now up to a size 18 and my BMI is safely in the obese category (am quite tall - 5'8 and people tell me I carry it well but I think they're being polite!)

Basically, I really don't want to be putting on that kind of weight again this time so need to be really careful with what I eat and the exercise I keep up. I'm also worried that at my first booking in appointment on Thursday I'm going to be classed as high risk due to my weight.

Is anyone else in the same situation?

  • My name is KayeCee and I am a fatty! image

Oh, so nice to read this post! I have always had to watch my weight and was a 12 when I got pregnant with my DD (she was born in April). I put on 3 stone with her image I managed to lose 2 of those doing the Cambridge Diet in Sept / Oct last year. I'd been doing WW since then but had the whole of Dec off as we were staying with family and then it was Xmas so I managed to put on a good half a stone and am back up to a size 16.

I'm terrified about my booking in appt that they are going to say I am fat and high risk because of that. To be fair, I was high risk last time due to high BP (I had this before I was a fatty!) and then I had an emcs so I'll be in that category - just don't want it to be because of my weight! I'm having an early scan next Tues and also worried they aren't going to be able to see the baby through the flab! My tummy is where I carry all my weight image

Are you being very good at the moment? I know I am not but Iknow I need to start otherwise I will indeed end up very large after this baby if I put on at the rate I did last time. Feel quite down about it and like I am in a catch 22 (although of course I wouldn't change being pregnant for the world).

    Fab thread lovely!

  • Hi im g/c from dijuly! I too am a "larger" lady and 14 weeks pregnant with my first. The midwife was lovely in my booking in appointment but did say i would need to see the consultant just with regards to anesthetic in case i needed an emcs. I have actually lost weight since finding out just because im making better food choices and only eating when i feel hungry as opposed to snacking and am determined to keep my weight gain to a sensible level. Being fat doesn't automatically make you high risk i think they just like to be prepared xx
  • That's good to know kittencara. I think I am a bit worried about being 'told off'! Think that's the teacher in me! I am 32 and I know I am overweight but I also try not to give myself too hard a time as I did only have my daughter 9 months ago. Let's hope we get nice midwives like yours! x
  • Yep, me too!! He he! I'm 5"8, 16 stone & bmi is 33 so am in the 'obese' category! Although i do hate bmi! I think I suffer from the opposite to what anorexics do - I actually think I'm ok although I know really I'm a fatty!! He he! My sis is the same! Think were just big boned

I said to hubby I'll prob have to see consultant due to bmi - how depressing! But hey, I have seen morbidly obese people have babies & all be ok so i'm

    sure we'll all be fine!

Food wise at the mo I really only fancy toast & cereal, wotsits & laughing cow sandwiches!! So nor great but hoping I'll start eating better soon! I did have a lovely bowl of fresh fruit, Greek yoghurt & a handful of crunchy nut cornflakes sprinkled on top last night for a snack!! Was yummy & healthy too!! image

I am a size 16 trouser and 14 top. when I asked my midwife about any issues she wasnt concerned, only difference is ive had a glucose tolerance test, but is diabetes is in the family. im hoping to go to the local midwife unit x
  • God you ladies are skinny minnies compared to me lol
  • I think I suffer from the opposite to what anorexics do - I actually think I'm ok although I know really I'm a fatty!!

    I have that too!
  • Hi girls! I'm a fatty too!

I'm determined to eat healthily this time as I was a size 20 last time I got pregnant and put 4 stone on! I'm back to a size 20 but still 1.5 stone bigger than I was last time!

My weight didn't affect my pregnancy at all, scans were ace and my birth amazing! Let's hope this time is the same!

  • Hi

Well this is my first, I'm a 16 bottom and 16/18 top (5'3" and 12 1/2 stone) - so obsese, was worried about it but hadn't even thought I'd have to see specialists!!!

    Now worried!

  • Anyone with a high BMI is put under consultant lead care hun, its just normal practice. As long as you are looking after yourself, eating healthy etc there should be no problems. I think the biggest problem for over weight mums is gestational diabetes but as I said if you are eating healthy this shouldn't become a major issue
  • In the nicest way possible, I'm glad there are quite a few of us on here. It will be a great support to discuss healthy ideas, admit when we've been naughty and possibly, by talking, some of us may find the root of our issues with our weight and food.

Kaycee, I'm a teacher too and find that I'm so tired during the day that i'm snacking and just tend to sit in the evening with no energy for the gym.

I'm trying to be healthy and keep up going to the gym but have to admit I've only been about 3-4 times since finding out I'm pg.

Are you all finding the energy to cook in the evenings?

  • Hi

I am getting bad cramps, also my thighs ache, this gets bad on and off and I wonder if it is worse when my uterus is streching because I carry all my weight there (I'm apple shaped)?

    Anyone the same?

    Lily

    PS - thanks torch2010 - it's all a steep learning curve! image
  • I do cook in the evenings (although DH also does a lot as he is a fab cook and loves doing it). We tend to eat healthily (I did Rosemary Conley a couple of years ago and the low fat is instilled in me!). My problem is the bloody portion I eat! Really need to sort that out!

I'm a bit of a sucker for biscuits during the day (especially seeing as we still have lots left from Christmas). I've had to really work at my weight to be a size 12 since my early 20s so I think when pregnant I get a bit over-excited, like I've been given a 'get out of jail free' card!
  • I am defiantly a fatty and wa before becoming pg with Elliott (9 months) I'm now 1.5 stone heavier then that so even more of a fatty!!!

No one mentioned my weight last time and had a normal pregnancy! Except for developing SPD but dont think this was fatty related! I actually lost over a stone up until I was Abput 5 months pg, just from being pregnant lol! But at 5 months my spd got really bad and toward the end of my pregnancy I wad pretty much immobile, I couldn't walk to far (literally doing our food shopping by the end when we go to the tills I was nearly in tears and when we got home I couldn't move for the rest of the evening) so this contributed to the 2 stone I then put on in the final 4 months!

I'm dreading going to booking in now just in case they mention my weight image ...I'm off to do some exercise lol!!! X
  • Hi ladies (or shall we call ourselves fatties?)

Just wanted to let you know, I booked in with the midwife on Thursday and the only thing she said about my weight was that I'd have to have the GTT (for all ladies with BMI over 30.) Apparently it's only consultant led if you're over BMI35. She said there's no reason why I can't give birth in the midwife led centre again too which I'm really pleased about.

Also, she mentioned there may be funding for slimming world so I'm going to ask GP about that next week when I go for the flu jab (eek.)

Anyway (and it's not like i didn't know) I still had to step on the scales and was 15 stone! Ahhhhh!!

Am trying to eat healthily still and am trying to get to the gym a couple of times a week. Was actually 2lb lighter today so have celebrated with some homemade flapjack - oh the logic of a fatty!

Hope yo're all doing ok xxx

    Peanut (8+2 I think) xx
  • Hi Peanut. That's great news that it wasn't an issue and that you can hopefully still use the MLU. I've actually lost about 4lb since finding out I was pregnant (that's probably because my wine intake has obviously plummeted to zero!). Still, applying the same logic as you, I now treat myself to a couple of digestive biscuits a day instead. I was actually wondering what 'diets' you can do while pregnant. I should really stick to WW (if only to prompt healthy eating) but I'm not sure if you can? Is SW for when you are pregnant or is she assuming (no offence here hun!) that you'll need it when the baby's out?!?

    xxx
  • I'm a size 20, 5'7" and 14.5 stone, I did weigh about 7lbs less with my first but I lost weight through the pregnancy as I craved healthy stuff and went of grease and sugar (which is the opposite of my normal diet lol) but I put it all on again with eating late at night and going straight to bed plus snacking on junk.

I had 2 gestational diabetes checks, big pain in the arse that was! I cannot stand Lucazade (blurgh!) but both negative, I was measuring big too but it was excess fluid. They said baby was going to be big but he weighed 8lb 14oz which isn't that huge.

So I'm in Team Fatty lol xxx
  • im a big girl im 19 its my first pregnancy im worried coz people say about bigger girls avin more problems. im an 18 too. and feel asif i could talk to others x
  • Kaycee, you're not meant to follow WW when pregnant (I had to give it up last time) they wont let you attend meetings but there's nothing to stop you following it. Slimming World you're allowed to follow whilst pg. My MW said it's with a view to maintaining your weight throughout so that you actually weigh less after the birth (here's hoping!)Going to enquire about ti next week anyway as definitely can't afford it without support. Well done on losing the 4lb hun. KNow what you mean about the wine - I had a cheeky glass (half) of red and it was amazing... I miss it so much.

Malky, isn't it strange that we're the same height but I'm heavier than you and call myself an 18! I'm either deluding myself or you're being hard on yourself lol x

Claire, feel free to chat on here about issues relating to weight, we all understand and no one's going to judge you x
  • I'm DIO and a fatty. Very worried about how this will effect my pregnancy and how others will view my pregnancy -on the other hand hoping that I won't show that early or that people will be too polite to ask!

Trying to eat healthily -hope to lose or stay the same weight throughout but who knows! Been doing a bit more walking and cycling this weekend, work has been so busy I haven't done much exercise for the last few months need to get back into it -gradually of course!

Only known for 4 days now I'am so excited how are you DIS ladies getting on?
