What a day!!!

Where to even begin!!

I was out talking to my neighbours this morning and felt a little poorly, came in to have a drink and check my sugars and they were fine so went back out. Was leaning up against their wall and all of a sudden my hearing became muffled and my sight became fuzzy. I came in to the house and next thing I woke up on the floor on my bump image

I was home alone so called my Dad and he sent my mum up to me. We called my midwife but she was off today so I was put through to an on-call midwife who told me I should have called my GP.....so I did that and she was also off today. Another doctor called me back and told me to call the maternity unit straight away, I did so and was told I would get a call back to let me know what time to go to the assessment unit. I waited and waited and no call.

I phoned back and was told that there people at the unit were not there, then was told to go up to the maternity unit, at this point the midwife I was speaking to and another one began arguing,

Midwife 1- She can't come up here, we don't see them before 24 weeks

Midwife 2- I don't care, she needs to be seen and I am not waiting for them down stairs to come back

Midwife 1- I will go and see where they are

Midwife 2- Yes you do that

So, waited again for a call back and when it came I was told to go straight to the assessment unit.

PHEW..............

Arrived and was seen straight away, baby is fine but my blood preassure was really low so have been advised to eat little and often and to put my feet up and rest. They are going to get me checked over again next week to see if it is still low.

All that fuss, wonder what will happen when I am in labour

  • Oh torch, how awful to be put through that. Why do all these different 'supposed' specialist medics feel the need to bounce us around various departments, all we want is to know all is ok. I had it during 1st trimester with first calling GP, 'oh he's off for 2wks leave I can book you in then', call midwife 'oh she's out, I can get her to call you tomorrow', early preg unit 'Oh yes come in, we'll see you as long as you're under 20wks'. I can almost see Matt Lucas and David Walliams doing a series about it.
  • OMG glad all was ok but thats terrible patient care !!

You put your feet up and rest ! x
  • Glad everything is ok Torch. But what do you have to do to get someone to help you. the waiting is agony. I was the same when i had my bleed! we will get the doctor to phone...you need to phone your GP... i'll get the MW to call you and meanwhile your getting more and more anxious and feel like a nuisance.

Anyway all is well and that is the most important thing you just need to rest a bit x
  • so glad everything is ok, Torch. But feeling very angry for you about the additional stress they put you under.

Had a similar situation (as in the kerfuffle at the other end, not the blood pressure) that's made me completely re-consider whether I would actually be better off at a hospital to give birth. They don't fill you with a lot of confidence, do they? Imagine if you'd just got the one that'd said, 'she can't come up here!'

Anyway, important thing is you're both alright... AND, you've got the perfect excuse to be spoilt all bank holiday weekend! 'Garcon! Bring me my tea and slippers!!!'
  • Glad all is ok hun,its so frustrating though that no-one seems to want to see you until 24wks, especially given your history!
  • Hi

    Glad you're ok.

I have the same issue and have nearly fainted 3 times now. My midwife said fluids are really important to stop it happening.

She also advised to carry snacks and water at all times to nibble if I feel faint and to sit down and cool down when it comes on. Hope some of this might help you too.

Fainting isn't dangerous to the baby but its obvisouly better if you can now feel it coming on and start looking after yourself before you go out cold.image
