Period pain type cramps

I just recently found out I am pregnant. Which is really exciting, but the only thing is I am awaiting my book in appointment with the midwife to have a dating scan. As I an not sure how far on I am. As the complicated thing is that I have the implant in my arm which is not due to come out until next year. 

The doctors are going to take the implant out, but because they can not find it. I am also awaiting for a referral from the hospital for them to remove this.

Is it normal in having period pain type cramps early on in pregnancy. As I can't remember with having them with my son as he is nearly 5.
