Feeling Attached?

Hi girls

I was just wondering is anybody feeling attached to their babies yet? I do and I don;t I mean I lov emy baby to be so much already but I still don't think it has sunk in yet that I am having a baby. I mean now that I am showing I feel different but i am worried i am not that attached to my baby as yet does that sound silly?

Please don't get me wrong i am not really really worrying about this, more just wanted to find out how you girls felt?

  • No i don't feel attached as yet, that'll happen on the day she's born...that first hold you have and look down at lil life you've created..nothing can beat it tbh!

  • I think I didn't feel that attached until two things that happened around the same time - one was finding out that it was a boy (not that I would have felt less attached if it was a girl, but just to know what sex it was!) and feeling the baby kick.
Before that, like you, i was really happy and excited that I was having a baby, but it did seem a bit surreal and I couldn't really grasp that there was a little person in my tummy!
  • Yeah I thought so as well. I have two friends who are pregnant though and both feel so attached to the baby. One is 24 weeks and the other has only just found out she is pregnant.

  • Yeah I think I will be the same. I found out the sex this sunday and I think for me that will make it feel so much more real. And then I can clal the bump he or she rather that just it or baby .

  • I am already feeling something for my baby I talk to it and sing to it and rub my belly but i think I will feel much more attached when I find out the sex and when I feel first proper kicks as I have only felt movements and what feels like baby stretching and digging a hand or foot in to me LOL

  • I felt really attached to my baby after the 20week scan once I new all was ok before that I wouldn't let myself attached.I definately think finding out the sex helps as I now call him by name and once you feel kicks it becomes more real.

  • I definately feel attached to my baby and I know I will be absolutely devestated if anything bad should happen. I hold my belly at night and am loving having him/her inside me growing, I think about it all the time.

No matter how attached I am I know it is nothing like the overwhelming feeling you get when the baby is born, there is nothing like the feeling you get and the shock of all of a suddenly being prepared to give your life for something if need be and the sense of love you have for the little being. Its a feeling you can never prepare yourself for. When I had my son it was such a shock, I wonder if its the same the second time around? I think it will be.

  • I know what you mean , I mean by no means would I not feel devestated if someting was to happen but i just don;t feel attached to the baby. In way i can kind of see why as i have not felt it move, I have not really see it very well on my scans so really all have is a bump and this is my first. I think with your second child maybe you feel more or you know kind of what your going through you more.

It's a wonderful feeling seeing the bump grow I just took a picture of it on my phone and texted it to everybody LOL

You still exite about monday, I bet you cannot wait!!!

  • I think I will really feel it when I feel some movement, and when my bump gets a bit bigger

    So looking forward to it!

  • I am almost 31wks and yes I do feel attached to the baby. I dont know the sex of baby and this doesnt make it any less real or any harder for me to attach.

In early pregnancy when I felt like crap I was seriously worried I would'nt attach to the baby as it was making me feel so bad! But that has all changed as I have begun to feel better and can see and feel the baby moving and growing. Hubby says he often just sits watching me stroke my belly and I dont even realise I am doing it!
  • Yes I am very very excited about Monday and the girls I work with are too, they keep saying 'not long now'. Im sure I will be a nightmare to work with on Monday. I cant believe when we speak on Monday you will know what yours is and I wont!

I cant wait to feel the baby move, Ive felt twinges but dont know if they are the baby yet until I feel them more and can specifically pin point what they are, I mean at the moment they could be A) stretching twinges B) wind C) Baby having wind D) random bubbles - lets face it there is so much going on who knows if its kicking or not!

  • I do feel attached to Angus, but not massively.
I think its because of my bump really... I do have a baby bump but its in two parts, like a B-shape  so I never really feel I can hold it properly or touch it. It doesn't really stick out that much either.
I thought finding out the sex would help but we are definitely NOT finding out now.
Now we have a doppler, I love having a listen to his heartbeat, we've done it everyday since I got it!
But I think I am too wrapped up how I will cope when he / she finally arrives!

  • Ahhh thats lovely image Your right about knowing the sex or not knowing it but i think for me that will make it feel a lot more real you know. Also as i said when it moves, the fact it;s growing and I can see that in my bump thats growing means so much.

See when i hear the heart beat I feel really attached to it but not every day. I think I am still very ealry on and the longer it goes the more I will feel attached.

  • Hi,

We're 26 weeks gone now and I kind of do and kind of don't feel attached to the baby. We don't know what sex it is so don't know if that would make a difference?

It's almost become normal that I'm pregnant and the kicks and wriggles are more like an everyday occurance, like breathing. Haven't quite got our heads past pregnancy yet so I find it hard to get attached. Don't get me wrong, I love my bump! I hug it all the time and we sit on the sofa watching the kicks and wriggles all evening, it just doesn't feel like a baby yet. It's more like a fish!

Oh no, I sound really un-maternal!

  • hi k-lou, i feel very attached to her and i think i did even when i was very ill, i felt so much love for something i had never met it was strange, now the whole family talk about her as if she is already here and its mum shall i put these nappies in Laceys room? or mil will phone and ask how Lacey is! i deffo felt more attached as the movements have got progressively stronger to the pint now where it is starting to be a little uncomfortable, but i love when she reacts to me poking her back!! i never thought we would have another so it is a bit surreal at times, when i sit in her room especially looking at all her stuff hard to imagine in a few weeks i will be pushing my baby in the empty pram and she wil be sleeping in that moses basket! sorry for the ramble xx

  • I didnt feel very attached until i had my 3D scan and saw her little face! I was starting to worry as with the boys i was so excited about everything, going online looking at clothes and nursery items and planning the bedroom etc etc, but this time round i just wasnt as in to all that. I think with hindsight, its just the fact that i have so much else going on, with Luca still in the process of being diagnosed, and having to deal with his behaviour, and Jack getting older and wanting more attention, help with homework, guitar practice etc, and then all the complications with the pregnancy, i just havent had as much time to spend thinking about the baby! Now i've seen her, and can picture her and know her sex for sure, i've felt closer. We've washed all her little clothes now and i've started looking around for her nursery, although i still dont really have much time!
I know once she's born i'll fall in love with her immediately and am soooo looking forward to giving her a proper cuddle! xxx
