Asthma - Getting worried
I posted on here not so long ago that my hayfever was so bad, it had triggered Asthma which I suffered from as a child. Depending on my hayfever depends on how bad my asthma is, but it has been really bad the last few nights. So bad that I wake up in the night as I am so wheezy. My doctor didnt want me to take my steroid inhaler due to my history. Is it possible that the baby could be starved of oxygen when I am really wheezy in my sleep? Anyone else suffering from asthma? xxxx

i would think its much safer for you and baby to get oxygen than suffer. Do you see an asthma specialist, if not i would ask to be reffered.
I take a steroid inhaler twice a day and my consultant at hopsital says its safer to do so than not. Also last pregnancy saw asthma consultant as ws breathless all the time and turns out was not my asthma getting worse just baby moving up and getting bigger. i also took 3 courses of oral steroids in last trimester of pregnancy as winter triggers me off and i felt much better afterwards.
Chances are that if you struggled to breathe in your sleep you will wake up and breathe more deeply. would really ask to be referred to specialist though.
dont forget if you get really bad to go to hospital as you need to be well to keep baby safe as well.
Take care and i hope you feel better soon

You should be ok to take your blue inhalor -what did the dr say?
- is this not having enough of an effect to relieve your breathing difficulty? Also what about asking if you are allowed anti-histimines to prevent the allergy/hayfever in the first place?
I think Filobabes advice is really good - if you are still getting regular attacks then you need to follow it up and get some help.

(sorry for gatecrashing your forum - saw your post on the home page)
might be best to talk to your surgery about if you have an asthma nurse/clinic at your gp's. xxx
Inhaled steroids only target the lungs and only in very high doses do they have any effect on other parts of the body. In fact if drs are worried about a premature baby birth they give a steroid to strengthen babies lungs (had this with LO, as had early contratctions at 36 weeks).
My advice would be either see another gp, asthma practice nurse firat and ask for a referral to asthma specialist.
