Sleep troubles - 29months old

Good morning, for nearly 2 weeks now my son, who previously was a great sleeper (7pm-7am), is waking about 3/4 times and night and will only fall asleep with me lying beside him.
I know it’s a busy time of year with Christmas and a change in routine but it’s such abnormal behaviour from him I wondered whether there was a development leap anyone knew off? He is 29 months old.
Any help or insight would be amazing, thank you!!
