Am I overreacting? Or is he selfish?

I had to come home because of a family emergency so it means my almost one year old will be spending Christmas at my parent's home with me. At first when I told my partner, he was quite upset about missing our daughter's Christmas and initially said he was booking a flight to spend Christmas together. 

Now as Christmas gets closer he has decided he prefers to stay with his family. We have never spent Christmas together as we both always felt our families needed us more (and his family Christmas are much more extravagant than ours).

I have asked him to come spend with Christmas with us since I could use the support but his reluctance to come is really letting me down. Shouldn't he be here in my time of need? Or am I being too, 'all about me?'
