  • Puppies are so cute and welcome you every time you come home. They will eat everything and anything you need to watch them carefully. Finding the right dog food can be trial and error with some upsetting their tummy while others give them stinky wind. Some dog food contains little meat so labels need to be read carefully. Training involves a lot of repedative work and doesn’t always work. They are also fiercely loyal and protective and can easily get around you with one of their cute or sad looks
  • The lack of sleep at first!!!   It is like having a newborn baby!!!!!
  • They will destroy your life, your independence and your carefully-tended home.  And then they will look up at you with total worship, and you will give in completely to them yet again.
  • Just how much work goes into training them to create a well behaved and socialised pet. This needs to be done sooner rather than later as we have all heard the saying 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks'
  • They don't tell you not to buy a puppy from a breeder of any sort and that it is better to adopt a dog or puppy from an animal rescue. #adoptdontshop
  • You will NEVER have a hair-free outfit again!
  • I never had a dog but by watching movies, it seems they are so loveable animals, waiting for owners to come home. Clingy creatures full of love
  • You can’t imagine some of the things they’ll find to chew
  • Don't buy a puppy. Adopt a puppy or an older dog from an animal shelter. Dog breeders are scum.
  • Although you don't give birth to them, a puppy is your baby. You have signed up for full responsibility of this beautiful animal and it, like a baby depends on you. You have to feed them and get them into a routine, set times for feeds. They will give you sleepless nights, with lots of crying, yapping and wanting to be cuddled. You gain a bond with them too. You don't want to leave them. You want to make sure they are ok every minute of the day. When you go out without them, u feel guilty,  if you do take them out, u need to make sure they have everything they need, poo bags , a coat if it's cold, seat or belt if they are travelling in your car. And just like children, if u do travel, you have to make many toilet stops. They bring joy to your life. Make you laugh, make you cry and sometimes make you chase them around the house screaming at them. The puppy is part of your family,  no matter what changes happen around them, you still have to give them the attention they need. If you don't, they get jealous and sometimes rebel. New baby comes along, pup feels left out so it pees around the house, just to tell you and the new addition that this is their home, they were here before. You have to take them to the vets, keep them healthy and make sure they are happy and healthy. Times can get hard, money can get tight,  or puppy may  be too destructive,  but you should never give up, don't give them away or get rid of them. You wouldn't sell your child if it were naughty would you. They need you to be patient, understanding and loving. But the one main thing no one tells you when you buy a puppy, is that  just like us, they don't last forever. In fact , they age quicker some breeds are prone to diseases like arthritis,  muscle problems or some just simply get old and pass on. You never get told about the devastation it causes. The empty hole in your heart,  feeling lost and helpless. Wondering if you could of done something different. A dog isn't just man's best friend, it can be anyones, and the pain of loosing them is horrendous,  but the memories you made, the love you gave and the time you spent with them will last a lifetime.  So the way I see it, the moment you get a puppy is the moment you become a parent, and that is one thing you are never told when buying one. Xx
  • When we got our lab puppy he destroyed the bedroom the first night and we wondered what we got ourselves into. Nobody told us they wake at 5.30am either and they have no idea about daylight saving either.

We persisted and trained him and he became the most beautiful dog. He never touched anything that wasn't his and became the best companion.
  • What you’re never told

    1. Research is the most important tool for giving your puppy the best and healthiest life

    2. You can’t treat your puppy like a dog. For example limited walking times and no swimming before 6 months

    3. Any dog you had or knew before, your puppy is and will be different

    4. You will constantly need to adapt your approach in order to accommodate your puppies development

    5. You will have to change your life to fit the puppy in. You can’t expect it to slot into your life without sacrifices. Good bye lie ins

    6. They are worse than children, they develop faster than children. They will keep you on your toes for the first year to two years

    7. Your progress will go backwards and you will feel defeated. Tag team training should help prevent burn out.

  • Nobody tells you how much hard work it's going to be and nobody tells you how much like having a baby its going to be. The constant checking to see if they're breathing, the buying toys and blankets constantly. But the snuggles, they're just the best. There's nothing like coming home after a long shift at work and knowing at least someone in the house is happy to see you with the whole but wiggle while the tails wagging. But its the "night feeds" that get you, you think because they're a puppy they'll sleep all night. Our definitely didn't. He wanted feeding every four hours. The crying of a morning because he wants to go in "nannys" room and also once he's awake the whole house needs to be awake because we just do not deserve a lie in. Then there's the taking over the bed during the night or getting pushed of your pillow because that's where he wants to sleep. But I honestly wouldnt be without him
  • They are extremely needy and  need constant training and attention in the first few months
  • That it's like having a newborn baby except more unpredictable!  You need eyes in the back of your head and to foresee every eventuality and prepare for it!
  • How destructive they can be and will chew everything in sight.
How needy they can be and always want attention.
How fussy they can be with their food.
    How adorable they can be.
  • * You have to discipline your puppy with ongoing training which is hard work and time consuming
    * You will have to take your puppy to the vets regularly for checks and vaccines which is costly
    * You will have to be a responsible puppy/Dog owner and keep your puppy under control and pick up its litter every day
    * You will have to keep your puppy on a leash where appropriate in public
    * You will have to get your puppy chipped
    * If you have a bitch puppy you will have to decide if you want your puppy to breed or not and if not  make enquiries to your vet with the view to getting your puppy spayed and your vet will advise
    * You will have to treat your puppy for fleas and worm them regularly
    * You will have to feed your puppy responsibly as there are certain foods are lethal for puppy's and dogs
    *
You will have to make sure your puppy/Dog have drinking water at all times of the day
    * You will also have to exercise your puppy/Dog every day
    * All these points are very rewarding upkeeping a puppy/Dog and they show constant loyalty and love
  • The things people didn't tell me before I owned a puppy...
Owning a puppy is like owning a toddler, you have to have alot of patience and train your puppy like mad!
Toilet training, learning to stay off the furniture, not to jump up! not to bark
and not to mention the cost of dog care and vet bills! WOW!
Another thing that wasn't mentioned previously was....Puppies are in to everything nothing is safe! My picture of little Tess proves that. :) I couldn't be without her though!

  • No one truly tells you how much hard work puppy's can be but they're worth it! I can't remember life without him!
No one tells you about the sleepless nights when they won't settle, them needing to go out at all hours of the night for the toilet to avoid accidents in the house. I spent a lot of my time helping him to overcome his separation anxiety - from researching how to help, to setting up my home when leaving him to make it as comfortable as possible. The majority of the days are spent picking up toys, running around the house trying to find him and make sure he isn't trying to eat the cat food :'). All of this is worth it for the pure love you see in their eyes and the joy they bring to your life! 💜💜
  • Puppies are hard work and love to chew everything in sight and leave their bones in your shoes and slippers :D
