Toddler bed / Sleeping

Hi Everyone,

sorry to butt in im from the September 08 & Due in June forums.

I have a 18 month old and we have just moved her into a toddler bed, she goes to bed at 7 and wont go to sleep on her own either me or dh have to sit at the side of her bed till she falls asleep then sneak out the room, she's fine sleeping but wakes up between 10:00 and 10:30 every night and crys constantly she wont even go back to sleep whilst we sit next to her bed, ive tried changing her nappy, offering her juice / water but nothing works. Did anyone else have any problems with their LO's or have any advise??

Thank you

  • Our lo went through the same when he hit 14 months and was a nightmare. Has she only started doing this since being in her big bed or was it the same in her cot?

Unfortunately it has to be tough love with this one; ignoring her cries completely is the best way to deal with it. Go in the first time to check she is alright but don't pick her up and only speak to her to tell her its alright and night night; dont offer cuddles or anything.

We had to do that with lo and it did take a week or so but eventually he got the idea; had to do the same when he woke through the night as well. He's now in his big bed and when he wakes we ignore him (sometimes sneak in just to check he's alright but never stay or talk to him) and let him cry himself back to sleep.

Put a folded up duvet (we bought a cheap single) on the floor by her bed just in case she falls out, then you know she's safe. And of course if she gets off the bed put her straight back on it then leave the room (we have a safety gate across his doorway).

It may also be that she's scared of her new bed if its just since being moved into it. Try playing on it through the day with her to show her its alright, lie down on it with her etc and put her favourite teddy/toy down for a nap in it to show her that its safe.

    Good luck hon xxxxx
