hi im looking for some advice my little boy riley is 19 months old and he isnt talking yet he shouts and laughs but dosnt say any words does anyone know any thing i could do to incourage him to talk ?
do you know any of the Makaton sighns? Justine and Mr Tumble on Cbeebies use it, try and learn some simple workds like hello, goodbye, drink, food etc and see if you can get some signs going, this may encourage better communication and then maybe the words will come later.
my lo sees speech and language mainly due to feeding issues but obviously she monitors his speech too, by the age of 1 they should have about 10 words, but she did say they don't have to be all that recognisable to anyone else, Paul does this funny little noise sort of inside his nose for beep beep and he beeps his nose, and he does a similar sounds for dog which sounds like woof woof but its just a nasal sound, she said this means dog to him so that's one of his words.
if you are really concerned speak to your health visitor or gp i'm sure they'll either reassure you or refer you
just a quick note to say that in the daily express there was a good article about babys milestones and not to worry about your children not reaching them at the same time as everyone else. talking was one of them and apparently einstein didnt speak until he was 3- so dont worry! xxx
My lo is 3 in sept and he does talk, but is very lazy with most of his words and shortens them. I spoke to my hv after i had my baby 7wks ago, and she has reffered us to have his hearing checked and to see a speech therapist. He had his hearing checked on thurs, and its fine- has to go back in 4months to have it checked again, as he couldnt detect the lowest noise (but she said thats mainly cos his attnetion span is so low- given his age!!! ). still waiting to see the speech therapist. SO at his age i really wouldnt worry to much, but if you are concerned maybe give your hv a call.
