Hi Everyone

Does anyone know if it is okay to keep taking a sterile brown inhaler and also Singulair when your ttc?
Thanks Vic x

  • I mean steroid!!
  • Yes you must speak to your gp, but as far as i know steroid inhalers are ok in pregnancy. It could be dangerous to stop these so please ask first.
When i was pregnant i had high dose inhaled and also oral steroids prednisolone and thats perfectly ok my LO came to no harm and they can be lifesaving. I also saw an asthma specialist when pg and they say theres no problem with inhaled steroids as they are only designed to target the lungs and have a minimal effect on rest of body only if you are on massive doses. Hope this helps.

  • I have been taking mine and I have a healthy 7 year old and used them throughout that Pregnancy... I was advised that it is ok so I am sure it is xx Good luck xx
  • sorry just realised you asked about singulair as well. Generic name is montelukast adn thats a tablet right? From what i've read there have been no clear studies in pg ladies but is felt benefits outweigh risks. Does it really work for you, do you have allergic asthma? I took it but had no real effect for me.
Definitely speak to gp about the singulair as they may be able to substitute it for a differnt medication.

  • hi im asthmatic and use brown and blue inhalers id so ttc and throughout pg my son is 9 months old now and fine i would suffer alot without inhalers so yeah benefits outweigh risk (but dont think there are any???) xxx
  • Thanks

Have just made an appt with the doctor to check about Singulair. Like you said Filo it is a fairly new medication on the market and I do worry that any possible side affects during pregnancy. It does help me, but I think I might feel safer and less worried just sticking to the brown and blue inhalers during ttc and hopfully (fingers crossed) pregnancy too.
