when should i test

hi girls first month of ttc, i have a slight prob,i am very irregular, my last af was 16th of jan, so i dont kno wen af is missed or late. so when should i do a test? i seem to be doing them every other day for the last 2 weeks but its expensive. has any1 else got the same prob?

    Hiya im in my first month of ttc too and also dont have a set pattern and couldnt tell you when im due on or anything, so i was going to just do a 28 day cycle and see how it goes (unless AF comes before then) on CD17 at the mo what cycle day you on xx
