Forum home Getting pregnant Trying to conceive

docs appointment

Hi all, I have taken a break from the forum to relax a bit and see if that helps but sadly no joy yet. Congrats to all you lovely ladies and your BFP's and fc crossed to all the ladies still trying.

I was just wondering if you had any advice, or helpful questions that you have asked your gp? We have been trying since Oct last year, which is not long I know. I have also read that you are often not taken seriously until you have been trying a year, but I feel like I just need an MOT. I have booked an appointment with my female gp as I do not find the male doc sympathetic at all!

I guess I just want the change to explain our stuation and perhaps have some bloods taken etc, Do you think there is any chance of that? Or will I just get told to RELAX!

I guess I just feel we are young and healthy, I have not been on the pill for years and although not TRYING for years we have never used a condom and just > and we know people who have had happy accdents that way! My cycles are regular and I use OV sticks and find my fertile days. Anyway rant over, I just need some reassurance really.

Many thanks everyone

  • Hi

I actually have no advice about the Drs as I am no longer living in the UK, but I do feel pretty much the same way you do (almost felt like you were writing my story). We are both just at 30, eat healthy, exercise regularly, don't smoke and rarely drink alcohol and I have even cut down on my caeffeine intake as well and yet like you, no luck. We have only been trying since December, and had one month out as DH was away on business during my fertile week but that's it. I have also beeing using OV sticks, not been on the pill for ages and know my fertile week and just no luck. It has actually gotten us both really down and I had to take time away from Baby Expert as I also needed to destress and calm down.

I honestly can offer no advice but all I can say is that you are not alone. If you ever want to vent I am happy for you to PM me. I also think that you are doing the right thing by going to the Drs and seeking advice. Let's hope that you get more sympathy from a female Dr. I had no sympathy whatsoever when I popped to my Drs recently and mentioned it image

  • Hi Joey, we've been ttc 11 months and went to the dr this morning, I told her about my irregular periods not ov every month and my thyroid problems and she had given me clomid to start next cycle for 3 months and if that doesn't work she's going to send us for testing. Hope any of this helps xxx
  • Hi Joey, we're just about at the year mark and have just started getting some tests. I went and spoke to my gp just after Christmas but she said to keep going and make sure we were having regualer sex around the middle of my cycle and to come back after it had been a year to 18 months. When I went back it had been just under a year but there was no chance of being pg by the year mark so she started some tests. I had cd2 bloods, hubs dropped off a sample yesterday and I have to have cd24 bloods done next week (I have slightly longer than "normal" cycles.) I think a lot of places are different so what they'll do will vary, be prepared for them to say come back after a few more months. I know thats not helpful but it can take upto a year for a perfectly healthy couple to conceive - I do feel your frustration though!!  xx

  • Hi joey, like the other ladies have said really. We went to docs at the year mark, he said they don't normally start 'investigating' until 12-18 mth of ttc.

My doc was great, he was very understanding and arranged for me to have blood tests, hubs to have SA. When they came back all good he referred us to the fertility specialist at the hospital. Since then I've had a HSG and been prescribed clomid as a 'all the nhs can do for us'.

Personally I would wait a few more months to see the doc, as once all the tests start it very hard to 'relax' and not to be consumed by ttc.

    Good luck though x

Rosa penny, good luck with the clomid and I hope it regulates ov for you.

There's a thread on lttc for us clomid ladies... It helps if your not sure on symptoms that clomid brings with it!
  • hey everyone : )

Thank you so much for all your responses, as soon as I typed it I thought god how ungrateful there are many other ladies who have been trying longer than us!

I guess its just something you cannot control, normally in life you can try hard at something and perhaps achieve your goals but I guess ttc is not the same.

I am not expecting miracles from the gp, but maybe just showing my face will help if we are going to have to pop back again at the end of the year and who knows sometimes you hear of ladies getting the ball rolling and then they get a BFP! All the best Rosapenny witht he clomid really cant wait to see your BFP news!

P.s has anyone experienced only a few days of AF? I am wondering if this could be a factor?

  • Joey you don't sound ungrateful at all just someone frustrated with ttc, completely understand, think I've been frustrated since month 4!! There's def no harm in going to see your doctor even if it is for just a little advice, I'm sure before you know it you'll get your bfp. Thanks I'm really hoping the clomid is our answer, I still have one ov to go without having effect so we'll see maybe i'll get lucky this month!!
  • Hey ladies just wanted to give you an update and say thank you. Went to the go this morning and she was lovely image really listened and asked lots of q's I almost cancelled cos I began to think she would just say keep trying. I have two blood tests booked for day 21 and 1-5 of my cycle. Hubby has a little pot too! Really feel like ball if rolling now and even she said its funny how u start the process and then ppl get their bfp's. All the best everyone and I will keep you posted : ) x
  • I can sense the relief in your message! It's really good news that they are taking you seriously, being sympathetic and not asking you to wait until the year is up. I think having the tests will at least put your mind at rest whatever the outcome.

I am considering a docs appointment (in fact I posted about this yesterday) as my ov/af is still so irregular. It's so frustrating waiting for ov and not knowing how long or when it will be. I came off the pill on 28 Dec and have only had 2 periods since. I don't want to waste the doc's time and be told to come back after a year though.

Wishing you lots of luck Joey. x

  • Glad to hear the appointment went well Joey, at least now that's getting the ball rolling xxx
