Worried about chlamydia and fertility
I have just started trying for a baby. About 7 years ago I was diagnosed with chlamydia and treated with antibiotics. I had it for around 9 months and I had no symptoms of PID, however I know that it can be silent. At the time I was taking antidepressants - citalopram 40 mg.
I was reading that antidepressants can boost the immune system but they may also boost it to an extent that the body can have too strong a reaction to infection. I have read that tubal damage is caused by an aggressive immune response where the body attacks the infection but does so in a way that scarring occurs in the fallopian tubes.
I wondered if there is anyone who has had chlamydia and at the same time been on antidepressants and still managed to conceive naturally? The thiught that chlamydia might have affected my fertility has caused so much worry and depression and badly affected my relationship with my partner. I would appreciate your help on this. Thank you.

I've been TTC 8mths I suffer with depression but have chosen not to medicate I've also had 2 bouts of chlamydia over the years and my OH. As time is going on and we are still tryin the thought did cross my mind that I wonder if my tubes have been damaged as a result?
It lies dormant which is half the problem as you never know how long it's been in your system until symptoms appear I've been clear for 6yrs now but they do say even if you had the antibiotics it can reappear back at any time because it's a virus that's in your system! Oh joy!
I was young and foolish all those years ago I just hope and pray I've not ruined my future
Hi Dollie, don't blame yourself for being foolish. This is a very common infection so don't beat yourself up over it. Why don't you see your doctor and ask to be referred to a fertility specialist for some tests? You should also ask your partner to be tested to, just in case there's a problem with his sperm. If you have some tests then they can tell you whether there is a problem and they can sort this out. Hopefully there is nothing seriously wrong. I didn't know about it reappearing at any time, but if it puts your mind at rest you could get tested every so often to make sure. I've had a couple of tests since I've been treated and they've all come out negative.
I'm sure you haven't ruined your future, but do speak to your doctor about your concerns. I'm thinking of you and hope that everything works out for you xxx
Good luck hope you get your BFP soon x
