Is Implantation Bleeding always light?

Hi,

Since the date of my ovulation, I've been experiencing many early pregnancy symptoms. I noticed them straight away, but did not want to jump to conclusions before I took a HPT. 

AF is due in 4 days, so I wanted to wait until after then to take a pregnancy test, but early this morning I had some light bleeding which lasted about 10 minutes, then stopped. I was not sure whether this was implantation bleeding as I'm so close to my period. After about 2 hours, I began bleeding again but a lot heavier, like a period but a little lighter than my usually flow, althought still required a sanity towel. The colour was slightly more deep pinky/browish than the usual deep red.

Currently, the bleeding has stopped, as has since about an hour ago. There's a high chance this could just be my period, or can implantation bleeding sometimes turn out like this? Should I still take the HPT just to be sure?
