Irregular cycle-when should I test?!

I've been ttc for 4 months now, my first cycle was 27 days, second was 26, third was 23 days and now I'm on day 26 of this cycle and still no af.
Since sunday I've been having period pains so I've been convinced that af is coming. Today the cramps have eased up. I could well be having a longer cycle this time round.
When should I do a test?
Also, in the lead up to my period I always get sore boobs and back ache but I've had none of that this time round, the last 2 days I've had a metallic taste in my mouth but no other signs.
Any advice would be much appreciated
