Follicles count

Did anyone do any follicle counts with transvaginal ultrasound? Just wondering WHY you have to do it on cycle day 3. I did mine on cycle day 11 .
Wonder if that makes a difference on the follicle count?

Baby dust to all!

I never had it done but I have a idea and thought I may share.
When new cycle starts there are several follicles which starts to mature, then a week later one takes over and the rest degenerates. If you are to take meds and maximise ur chances of having a follicle of correct maturity at ovulation so u can ovulate, you want more than one follicle to be present. If u deal with it later then most follicles already degenerates and only one is left to deal with. Does that make sense?

That makes sense! Since i did the ultrasound on CD 11 ,and there was already a dominant follicle,  Can i assume that i had more follicles back in CD 3? Thanks so much.

Most likely u had, we have a lot of follicles, but their number drastically decreases with age.

Yes that is indeed so sad ;( i only have 9 on CD 11 but the doctor was not concerned at all. But when i did search online, seemed like that’s kinda low.

Im not a specialist but it sounds like a good number. What are u worried about why are they checking ur follicles? Ivf iui or general insight? If I may ask, u don't need to answer.

just checking because we have been trying for several months . Wanting to make sure everything is ok.  Doctor wants us to try naturally since he does not seem to think there is a problem. I guess i should leave it at that?

Did u have progesterone tested too at cd21?
May I ask what type of ovulation tracking did u use so far?

I am only at cd 12 now so no. No progesterone level checked yet. I have the clear blue purple with the flashing smiley and static smiley ones. Should I get my progresterone level checked?

It's not needed unless ur concerned. If u ovulate normally and have normal luteal phase length, then there is no need.

Last several months i always ovulate confirmed by OPK.and my luteal phase is abt 14-15 days. I guess that’s ok.
thanks so muc for following up!! Really appreciate the thought:)

Opk does not confirm ovulation. It only confirms lh surge. Lh surge doesn't mean egg was released. Sometimes nothing is released because none of the follicles matured. The only way to confirm ovulation is ultrasound progesterone or bbt. That's a regular length so it's good. I guess u are just having bad luck I'm afraid. Don't give up all seems good so I'm sure u will get ur bfp soon!

Did you check amh? My doctor told that gives an idea of Ovarian reserve.

Hi! No he did not as he was not concerned. Did you get your follicles checked? And if you did may I know how many did you have?

I am not sure if we understood each other well. So just to clarify. The eggs u seen are eggs which started to grow that particular cycle, your complete number is in thousands or hundreds at this point, u just can't see them all. So every cycle a dozen dies while one or two is released.

Amh gives u a good representation of total number u have left, but since u are young I wouldn't worry about it that much.

Hi @MadDoda Thank you for explaning :) yes I understand. Just want a comparison of antral follicles count with someone. I got a mix result from google regarding that number, so a bit confused. Not a big deal but just curious :). I’m 36 so not that young unfortunately 😆

Still young, but yeah me in hundreds then. I'm sure u will be OK! BTW google is bad if u want reliable info try google scholar. U can find reliable source there, some mb restricted but some is available to see.

@Kazam2817 ur testing ur follicles for iui aren't u, mb u can shed some light.

That's not low infact we often have more tgat are too small to pick up on scan as they're a lot smaller xc u have follicles that's the main thing xx
