Pregnancy and bleeding help please

Hi me and my partner have been trying to conceive for a few years, I took a test on the day before my period which was negative, my period arrived the next day (or so I thought) but it has been going on light for 16 days now, i was told to take a test to rule out being pregnant so I took a test yesterday and again today and both were positive.

I don’t understand how it was negative before bleeding and now it’s positive. I was booking an appointment anyway to find out why I’ve been bleeding for 16 days but wondering if anyone had successful pregnancies and bleeding, like breakthrough bleeding or a long implantation bleed. Or if I should assume that it’s a chemical (just don’t no why the test is getting stronger later on)
