Help with Beef Stew

Hi can anyone help, i'm a pretty crap cook & just need some help with the basics of beef stew cos all the bloody recipies I read are different.

Forgetting the veg do I coat the beef in flour then fry it in oil or simmer in water / stock?

Would you then add veg & leave it in the pan or stick it in the oven to casserole.

God i'm useless!

  • Lol, my oh makes lo beef stew as he loves it and so does lo(I hate it!).



    Basically he fries off the beef in a littl oil till browned and then adds into a pan (minus the oil) on the hob to carrots, onion, parsnips, potatoes, turnip, stock and about a pint of water (maybe a bit more water). He makes lo's seperately and uses half a stock cube but you can buy baby stock cubes, he also doesn't add salt.



    He then leaves it bubbling in the pan for a couple of hours, and then leaves it till the day after as apparently stew is better on day 2! With lo we freeze it the day he makes it and save a serving out for day 2.
