Talkback: Bottlefeeding - one mum's story

    Hi E A 2,

You’re right that it’s now advised that formula bottlefeeds are made up fresh, as required, with boiled fresh tap water that’s been allowed to cool for no more than 30 minutes. More info on when this revised advice came about and why it’s so important can be found in another of our feeding articles.

This article isn’t an advisory piece, but the sharing of one mum’s experiences and her decision to bottlefeed. We acknowledge that mum Carol hasn’t followed the exact steps outlined by the NHS in its more recent bottlefeeding leaftlet and on the NHS site and just want to gently remind all bottlefeeding mums that Carol’s experiences shouldn’t replace any official guidance.

    Thanks,
    C

Please note that this article does not follow the latest guidelines on making up formula! Pre-boiled, cooled water will not kill bugs growing on the formula powder and may cause severe illness.
