my child who has adhd goes to a mainstream school and is currently on medication. He has lately though just started an attention training course(gamesforlife) that helps him to focus and measures his concentration levels, so that maybe one day he may be able to come of medication altogether.I find though that the schools are not always up to date with how adhd effects children.
