Is pasteurised cheese safe in pregnancy?
Brie, Camembert, Chevre - are any of them safe to eat if they are pasteurised, plus what are the rules on other pasteurised cheeses?

We can see that the Mayo Clinic, which is US-based, says soft cheeses are OK to eat in pregnancy.
However, we can't see that they have any advice on the safety of mould-ripened cheeses, like Brie and Camembert, which is what we are writing about in this article.
As we've said, and as the NHS advises (https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/why-can-i-not-eat-soft-cheeses-during-pregnancy/), it's recommended in the UK that pregnant women avoid mould-ripened cheeses – whether they're made with pasteurised milk or not – because there is a risk that they could contain listeria.
Advice on what's safe to eat in pregnancy does vary from country to country. So we realise it can all be a bit confusing when you're looking online. But we'll always stick to the advice and guidelines that are set for pregnant women in the UK.
Hope that makes things a bit clearer.
