Introductions

Some of you probably know each other from the other forums but lets have proper introductions and stories anyway

I am 23, OH is 25. We have been trying for a baby for 16 months now. We managed to concieve with the help of clomid but sadly I had a MC in February at just under 8 weeks, it was a horrible time and I had a very bad MC and ended up admitted into hospital.

Before I got pregnant I never had regular AF, could go anything upto 6 months without having one. Since the MC i have alot of irregular bleeding and having been bleeding for upto 6-8 weeks at a time, basically iv gone from one extreme to the other lol.

Now I am on about day 40 something with no AF and I feel like scraming arghhhh!

Sorry to go on and on but its just a huge relief that they have made this forum, YAY BE WHOOP WHOOP

Hi Sweetie123, Very pleased about the forum too! I am 34. getting married in 3 weeks and have been trying for first baby with my fiance (he is 33) since mid-October. I have always had very irregular periods too (sometimes several months without one) and my "cycle" varies usually between 38 and 70 days. I also have an underactive thyroid (and apparently this is more common in women with PCOS) and wasn't allowed by the doctor to start trying until my thyroid hormones had stabilised with treatment (otherwise we would have had high risk of mc/ birth defects). I'm really sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Are you going to have another course of clomid, or is something else the next step?

    Hi B,
I don't know at the moment as when we were having docs appts, clomid etc it all got a bit much for me and really got me down and just as i was about to have a nervous breakdown (bit of an over statement haha) i fell PG. So we have just been going with the flow since MC and hoping for a miracle. I know I really should go back to the doctors and start the treatment again but I know exactly what it involves and the tablets turned me into a complete mess!

Thats good that they have treated your underactive thyroid and you are now free to get on with things and try for that little bundle of joy. Have they suggested any help with TTC and PCOS?

    HI ladies,
Sweetie - this post explains a lot of what I asked you about in your other post!

I'm just gone 32, DH is 32 too. Been TTC 14 months, fell pg naturally after 4 lovely regular cycles exactly 4 months after coming off the pill but had mc in feb at same time as Sweetie, which devastated me.. Since then no af! Cue doc visits, bloods, scans etc and PCOS diagnosed about 2 weeks ago.
I was always suspicious though as I had very irregular/absent af's since I was a teenager.

Wishing us all lots of luck .

i ladies, i have never been on the ttc forums and feel a bit of a fraud really, but i was diagnosed with pcos during an early pregnancy scan with my first daughter. ahh i thought thats would be the reason that i have practicaly no periods!

i am one of the lucky ones, the only syptom i have is practicaly non exsistant periods.
i have 2 lovely daughters aged nearly 5 and 19 months. my first aws a suprise baby i hadnt had a period for about 5 months but i started to feel funny and went to get it checked out and i was 5 weeks pregnant. my second was concieved after 6 months of trying, during which time i didnt have a period, but i thought i had some signs of ovulation so decided to test 2 weeks later and got a bfp!!!

i dont want to make any one feel bad, i have been really really lucky to cocieve so easily even though i hardly ever have periods.
good luck to all you ladies i hope that things happen for you soon. xx

Hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was younger (17) - through blood tests, an ultrasound and lots of whining at gp about symptoms. Wasn't an issue really then as I was not ttc so the doc prescribed the pill - which caused horrific intolerance symptoms no matter what pill combination we tried so basically had to put up with it.

I am now 23 and my husband is 24, and we have been ttc for 26 months - I always assumed it was my PCO causing the problems and that I wasn't ov'ing properly. I started basal body charting and it didn't show anything happening so we just had sex every day lol! We got a referral to the fertility clinic and they prescribed metformin but I couldn't manage with them - I was so sick, diarrhea and stomach cramps even the metformin slow release didnt improve things so not taking them anymore.

When OH went for sperm analysis his results came back showing it may not be just my PCO causing us problems. First test came back as low sperm count (3million image - so he started taking supplements etc, his second showed an improvement in count but in further analysis it showed poor motility and morphology and third the same.) I am now on clomid 50mg and during my scans it showed both ovaries are polycystic but the clomid worked and one follicle grew to 2.1cm!

I don't feel too bad about it these days I used to feel sad and think it was my fault for us not concieving but seems we are both faulty!

    Hello Ladies

I am 25 and my DH is 23. We got married in April. I was diagnosed with PCOS in August 2007, my DH was great about it and we have discussed all avenues for having children. But I really want to have my own.

Since we got married we decided to not take any precautions against falling pregnant, as we both knew that the road to having children could be a really really long one.

In August I was put on Metformin but to be honest I have not noticed too much of a difference since being on them.

I am hoping to make an appointment at the GP for us both to go and say that we want to be referred to a fertility clinic so that we can be properly tested and get on the waiting lists that we need to be on, the only thing is i need to convince DH that this needs to be done now so that at least we are on the lists.

Some days I really battle with the thought of not being able to have children but try so hard to block it out. What makes it worse is that it seems that everyone around me is pregnant or just had babies. Don't get me wrong I am so so happy for all my friends but there is a little part of me that wants to jump up and down and scream 'ITS NOT FAIR'

    Anyway sorry to dump!

I am really really excited that we have our own topic now!

Wishing you all truck loads of baby dust.

    hi

I think I should have posted on this thread first! As you may have read in my new topic I was diagnosed with PCOS before ttc my first. My husband also had a low sperm count. Anyway we managed to do it naturally (after quite a while but I was young so wanted to try without drugs first -although I had the prescription for metformin at home when I took a pg test just to be sure before I took it) but 2 things really helped me:

Agnus Castus (available from most chemists/ health food stores)- nb you can only take this for the first part of your cycle until you ovulate- look on the internet for further info.

A book called the PCOS diet- I followed it to the letter and noticed amazing results!

I used to have 90 day cycles where I didn't ovulate at all. Coupled with DH's low sperm count my baby boy really was a miracle!

The PCOS then cleared and we started trying when baby was about 8 months old. DD was conceived 6 months later!

Please don't be disheartened and seriously try this diet book it made me feel so much better. In fact as you may read in the new topic I started I am ttc again and I think I'm going to go back on the diet.

    Hi

I am 27, Dh is 28. We have been TTC for 12 months. Fell pg in March and had an MC at 6 weeks. Before MC cycles were about 45 days, after MC didn't have AF for 5 and half months. Started taking Agnus Castus (a really strong tincture form) and within 17 days AF arrived...miracle formula!!!

Am now on day 40 something and have just been diagnosed with PCOS. My blood test were fine but scan showed I clearly have lots of cysts. My GP prescribed Metformin last week and am only on 500mg for 28 days to start with. I haven't been on the Agnus for a while as I ran out and am getting more from my chinese herbalist dude-y this week, yey!

My GP is going to increase my dose but is taking things very slowly **stamps feet**!!

The last 12 months have been a rubbish roller coaster so I am feeling extremely positive and can't wait to start 2010! I know in my heart of hearts it will all be okay and secretly I'm hoping my body is brewing up twins ;\)

Look forward to sharing my journey with you cysters! Kez xxx

    Hiya

I'm 26 and hubby is 33 - we got married Sept 08 and have been trying since May 09. I came off the pill in Dec 08 and had really regular AF and then they just stopped in May. After almost weekly appts with my doctors (scans and blood tests) I was diagnosed with PCOS last month. Hubby has just done a "sample" this morning so we've now got our own little 2 week wait until we get the results back. Have had some forms from our docs to refer us to the fertility clinic, so once we get hubby's results back, we'll be able to make our first appt...no idea what to expect - very scared about it all but my fingers are crossed as tightly as can be that we can conceive naturally.

Love this new forum and looking forward to chatting/getting to know you all.

HI Girlies, how exciting is this new forum!!!

I'm Laura, 24 n OH is 27. I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 19 and back then when i didnt really know much about it, i presumed that was the end of it n i would never have children etc. AF was 1-2 per year, sometimes less. In april 2008 when i had stomach cramps, vomiting and extreme tiredness, I went 2 see my GP and told her i thought i was dying of some mystery illness lol!!! My mystery illness turned out to be that i was 5 weeks pregnant and we were blessed with our miracle little girl in Dec 2008.

We're now TTC again since june 09 (although not be using any contraception since last pg) with no luck yet as no AF since may 09!!

1 of my best friends had an ectopic back in may after TTC for 3 years, she had 1 of her tubes removed and basically a really horrible time, she has no children and sometimes i feel sooooo guilty for moaning that AF hasnt come, that i'm not ovulating etc etc because i have my little girl n she must be thinking "just be grateful u've got 1" (although i'm sure she's not, she says it makes her feel better to be involved in my LO's life)!! anyway will be nice to talk 2 u girls about the horrors of PCOS without boring my OH or Friends anymore lol!!

can you use the agnus stuff if you dont know when you will be ovulating or when AF is due??

So that's me & i look forward 2 hearing every1s BFP news soon!!!!

**** lots of magic baby dust ****

    Hi ladies

nice to have a PCOS forum atlast. i wish it had been here this time last year when we were trying to conceive

Anywasy i hope its ok if i tell you my positive PCOS story. Im 27 and hubby is 31. we got married in November last year. I was diagnosed with PCOS age 22 when i almost went a year with no periods, put on weight, bit hairy and bad skin - all the usual! My best friend at uni who i lived with at the time was a medical student - she is now a GP- and she told me it was likely to be PCOS. So i went armed with this info to see a GP. he was young and male and had to get his little book out! but give him hs due he ordered bloods and sent me for a scan. I had the diagnosis within about 2 months. Saw the senior GP on my return who basically put me on the pill - wasnt trying to concieve at this point- told me to watch my weight and to get back in touch when fertility was an issue.

I did go back when my weight started to increase and got really hairy again with advice from my friend - who was then training to be a GP- about metformin. The Gp wouldnt prescribe it but reffered me to a gynaecologist who put me on it. To be honest it didnt make too mch of a difference. I was still on the pill so dont know what it would have done to AF.

Then OH and i decided that after we got married we would start TTC. i stopped the pill in march 2008 - to get it out of my system and see what AF were like. I had periods for two consecutive months - i thought great!- BUT then nothing for 6 months- ( november) . Then anouther one 2 months later ( january) . In march this year i decided to go on a health kick. Joined the gym, went to weightwatchers. I lost a stone quite slowly and with loads of hard work but still no AF. Then in April i thought i had a twinge in my left ovary and wondered if it was an ovulatory pain. Needless to say two weks later i got some spotting which lasted a day - but still no AF! I dont know why i did it but i bought a pregnancy test the following day and low and behold a definate blue cross. I couldnt believe it. I had had two periods in a year! so im now 30 weeks pregnant with our little miracle.

So what im trying to say is even if your last AF was 70 days ago you can still ovulate and conceive on day 84. i never thought it would happen to me. but it did and it canfor you.

    good luck to you all

    lots of baby dust

    Hi fellow PCOS ladies

I am 29 nearly 30 and my husband is 34, we have been trying to conceive since sept 08. I was on the pill which I came off in Jan 08.

I was diagnoised with PCOS when I was 17 due to absent or when I did have them heavy periods. I tried to conceive with my previous partner but things were not right in this relationship which may have had a bearing on this. (thats by the by now!)

Me and my husband have been referred to the fertility specialist, I have been taking metformin slow release (3 at night) for about 3 years now - not really noticed much difference but still continue! Since being referred to the specialist I have had several tests and a HSG which has shown 1 blocked tube and obviously PCOS which I already knew about. Amazingly since jan 09 I have become as regular as clockwork and have approx a 31 day cycle!

Husband has had SA and has plenty of sperm approxilately 1 for everyone in the UK!!! the only problem with them is that they are not being kept well - the specialists terminology! he has been advised to cut down on his alcohol (he doesn't have a drink problem in case you wonder) and wear lose pants etc etc in an aim to store them better!

I don't have another appointment until Feb 10 now at which point they have said they will try clomid but I need to lose weight before they will prescribe it. But as you fellow sufferers know this is not easy to do!

Off on holiday next week and then going to really focus on losing a serious amount of weight before I get back! Should be my most fertile time while we are away so will be at it like rabbits as well!!!!

Good luck all and loving this forum

    Hi Jerseymum

You recommend Agnus Castus I have read some info on this on the internet and it says to take 2 a day , it doesnt say to just take up until ovulation, was that what was recommended. If so when do you start?

    Thanks
    Abi

With the AC I think they say to take it up until OV and then stop taking it as they do not recommend taking it after OV as it is not recommended in pregnancy. Hope this helps.

    Hi everyone,

Sweetie123, sorry not to have replied but have been having a bad few days (not connected to TTC0) because my lovely granny has died suddely just before our wedding (in 2 weeks time). Anyway, I thought I would carry on with my learning about PCOS today to keep me busy and distracted from sad thoughts.

I'm sorry to hear the tablets made you feel so ill and will keep my fingers crossed for you for success this month (and for everyone else too, of course!)

The consultant has said there is no point me trying for any more than three of my cycles (given my age - 35 in spring - and the appearance of my ovaries on US) before he puts me on clomid (will probably be in 6 months time). I am post-ovulation and pre AF now (can't call it 2ww as it is always so much more than 2 weeks for me!!), but don't think we have done it this month (first month TTC). He says he won't give me metformin (my BMI is now at the top end of "healthy") and I don't really know why not. I will try to ask him why not when I next see him. He is very nice.

Thank you very much, Sweetie123. It is the funeral today and I am looking forward to being able to say goodbye to my granny properly. I am doing a reading, we have a lovely service planned and I know she would have loved the orders of service we have done. So many people are coming too, which is great.

Yesterday I got my AF, so month 1 of TTC is down and I am suddenly feeling positive about month 2 (oddly as my temp charts suggest I didn't ovulate this month!) We will see how we do this month - we wil be on honeymoon at OV time - may help us and who knows???

I hope everyone is having a good week and good luck to all.

    Hi,

This is a good idea image.

I'm Gems, i'm 27 and DH is 31. Obv i have PCOS image and DH had a few issues originally with SA but after putting him on supplements he is all sorted now. We have been together for 10 years and married for 6.5 years. We have been ttc since Jan 2006, We were referred straight away as i only have AF 1 to 2 times a year, so we started with 7 cycles of Clomid (50mg-150mg) and i ovulated on the first cycle (no pregnancy) but never again. I've been on Metformin on and off since late 2006, it has not helped me at all except with weight loss, which has now gone back on image. Then i had ovarian drilling and was off for weeks as the pain was horrific (not everyones is), i had to have liquid Morphine in hospital afterwards and then i got a womb infection during recovery as well. After all that, i still wasn't having any cycles. The NHS clinic at the time had asked another local NHS clinic if they could refer us to them to have injectables and they were told yes we could have them, only to turn up at the appointment months later to be told they couldn't offer it to us and that we had been given incorrect info. The NHS then said there was nothing more they could do for us and so our only option left was to move onto private care. Private care was great, the people were much nicer, the secretary at the NHS clinic we were at was horrible and made me cry numerous times, but the private clinic was fab. We had two IUI's with Puregon in 2008, i did ovulate but no pregnancy. Due to the low success rates with IUI we are not having anymore and i am too young to have IVF on the NHS. So i am again trying to lose weight in the hope that this will regulate me, i will be doing a gluten-free diet as there has been some successes for PCOS women doing gluten free, although when i was 2 stone lighter i didn't have AF regularly either. We have also tried numerous holistic approaches with no success. I had a surprise ovulation this year but no pregnancy, so in the 4 years we have been ttc i have only ovulated 4 times.

Ok, now reading it back, i'm even more depressed.

    xx
