Were you referred to a specialist with PCOS??

I have only recently got married (beg April) and we decided to start trying for a baby straight away. On Friday, I started to get sever tummy pains on my right hand side and I actually got admitted to hospital for 3 days with the pain.

I had an ultrasound scan on Tuesday and told me I have many cysts on my ovaries and "it is a lot worse on the right hand side so that eplains the pain". They have referred me to a gynecologist and I have an appointment on Saturday. Im still in a bit of pain but not as bad as it was.

Is this how any of you got diagnosed? Or could mine be something different? They havent told me what type of cysts they are. Im worried they are going to make me have surgery and im scared!!

any advice appreciated.

thanks girls

I've never had pains like that so I don't know why that would be. Hope they manage to sort you out. I'm having surgery to help my PCOS this Saturday and pma is telling me it's gonna help. Fingers crossed for us both, eh?! xx

    Hi IWAMB,
I was referred after having no af when I came off the pill and blood tests by my gp indicated pcos. I went to see a gynaelocogist who did more bloods and an ultrasound. The scan showed cysts on my ovaries- don;t worry I think they won't be anything ontoward or they would have told you. Not sure how much you know about pcos but in basic terms it's where your body isn't ovulating properly or regularly. Often follicles mature but don't get released (which is what usually forms an egg). This creates a build-up of lots of unreleased fllicles that look like cysts on the ovaries on a scan. I asked my consultant as I was concerned about pains in my sides (particularly one side) and she said it would be because the ovaries can be uite swollen but she said evntually the fluid from the cysts is reabsorbed and they go away but then other wiill build up again.

Surgery is one option but there are others depending on the situation. I'm at roughly the same stage down the line as mrs r but they've put me on tablets to try and regulate my ovaries first so there are lots of different methods they use but surgery can be very successful. It's good that you've been picked up so early on so they can start to get things sorted but it can be a fairly long process waiting to get ppointments.

Let us know how you get on and if you have any other questions xxx
