PCOS & Recurrent Miscarrige????
Hi Ladies
Some of you may know me fromLTTTC, i also have been diagnosed with PCOS.
Sadly i suffered my second MC this week at 4+6. Iam truely deverstated as its taken 14 months to concieve.
In a desperate bid to find awnsers, i have been doing alot of research on PCOS & recurrent MC.
Im not sure if any of you ladies know much on the subject or have had any experience?
Ive read that ladies with PCOS sometimes who have had MCs can be helped by combinations of drugs. I understand that some times causes can be problems with clotting agents in the blood or Insulin levels. Ive read that sometimes Metformin & sometimes baby asprin are perscribed to help prevent further MCs.
I went to my Gp yesterday to inform them of whats happened & TBH she was realy lovely about it. We talked for a while & she was happy to discuss what id researched. She tried to reassure me that all is not lost & i could be helped & not to think the worst, ( i.e. my eggs are rubbish or its genetic ).
I guess i was just wondering if anyone has had any success after MCs & what treatmentt if any they had.
Im due to see my consultant in Dec & iwas due to start Clomid. I know sometimes you can take Metformin alongside Clomid. Im a little angry too as ive been asking my Gp for Metformin for about 7 months & keep being fobbed off, this was the reason i changed Gp.
Well glad us PCOS sufferers have our own little space & hope things go well for us all.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm sorry to hear your sad news. You must be having a really tough time at the moment. We are all here to support you so anytime you need to talk just shout. I'm glad your GP let you talk properly, I'm always so apprehensive about what to say in case you say the wrong thing. I'm afraid I don't have a success to share but wanted to show my support to you. I know when I had my MC in April I said if it happened again it would break me...I can't imagine how you must feel at the moment hun.
Not sure why they haven't given you Metformin, a positive way to look at it is that you know with PCOS you don't ovulate well but Clomid will make you do that. If they put you on a course of Met first it could just prolong the whole process.
Have they offered Met as well now? This is the first time i have read that Met can be prescribed to help prevent MC's, what did you GP say about that, did they agree?
Wishing you loads of luck for the next couple of months. Hopefully you'll be on the Clomid very soon and you can start again in 2010!
Take care xxx
Yea apparently they can give you Metformin to regulate your insulin levels. They can also give you asprin as it thins the blood.
I realy dont understand the technical reasons very well.
Im still comeing to terms with looseing another bean, it took 14 months to get BFP so it just seems so cruel. im just taking 1 day at atime at the moment. xxx
I'm on Metformin, started it just over a week ago, not sure if it will work but really hope so! My GP implied she wouldn't refer me to a specialist for Clomid unless I was a bit older (I'm 28 in March), not so sure about that though, may change GP's if this drags on and nothing happens. For the tme being am happy to take the Met and keep my positive head on.
Life can be cruel sometimes, people always say these things happen for a reason but I can't see any logical reason why we have MC's. Life's just not fair sometimes. Make sure you spend lots of time putting your feet up and getting spoilt, you've been through a lot best you tackle it head on instead of feeling worse later down the line. Take care and msg me anytime, always happy to talk,

Thankyou so much for your reply.
Firstly id like to say im impressed at how strong you are after your sad losses. It is so nice to think there is hope after my 2 MCs that i can go on & have a healthy pregnancy.
May i ask Crystal what tests did you & OH have? Im due to see my consultant in Dec & although i know usualy you have to have suffered 3 MCs before they will test you im going to ask or even go private due to my age, im 32.
Thankyou so much once again & many congratulations on your beautiful little boy! xx
Well i realy dont think the problem lies with OH as he has managed to get me PG twice! I do think it is related to PCOS & maybe due to too much testosterone as i have some rather embarressing side effects,( hair on nips lol).
Yea im not prepared to wait im 32 & OH is 39, altogether we will have been trying 19 months,14 month between PGs & i dont think i can bare to go through it again.
For lots of reasons i didnt even tell OH i was PG or that sadly i had another MC this week, he took it very badly last time & im glad he didnt have to go through the pain again.
I realy do hope my consultant will do these tests for me, if not iam prepared to go private.
Thanks again hun & i promise i will let you know how i get on. xxxxxx
I'm sorry to hear you have been having mc's. I have pcos as well. I'm 30 yrs old and now pg with my 2nd child. It took about a yr each time to fall pg. Have you been checked for endomitriosis as well? I have the extra hairy bits, chin, nips, belly and have tried about 10 diff contraceptive pills over thee years as it was so hard trying to get an even balance,,, in the end I came off them altogether. The 1st time I got pg it was within a month of stopping the pill not that I ever remembered to take it properly! They say that you'become extra fertile after stopping the pill but whether an old wives tale I do not know! I have also had problems losing weight and with my raging hormones and it may be related to pcos why I kept bleeding at the beginning of this preg, It was a very stressful, emotional time. Try not to give up hope I know that it is easily said than done. I think that 28 is a good enough age to be given the drugs to help you I personally would change dr. It is obviously just that particular gp's opinion that you should have a child older. I had my first child the day before my 23rd. By choice I don't want to have toddlers in my mid 40's and that should be respected by the medical professionals. Thinking of you xjx

i have pcos too. i was on metformin with clomid to conceive. i also read about the higher chance of miscarrying. i spoke to my consultant and he said that in our pct they recommend women with pcos to stay on metformin for the entire pregnancy - som peopl still feel it should only be the first 12 weeks.
i took his advice and am now lucky enough to have an 11 week old that i will be eternally grateful for.
all i can say is push push push i you feel your doctors are not giving you what you need-also always demand to be referred to a consultant. they should know their stuff.
all the best xx
Thankyou so much for your advice & congratulations on the birth of your lovely little bundle!
Im definately going to push for Metformin & Clomid together, as i believe this will give me the best chance of getting a sticky bean. Im also considering asking about 5mg of folic acid & asprin too.
thankyou again & sending you all lots of babydust xxxxx
