Anyone starting IUI in the next couple of days?

Hi Ladies,

Just wondered if anyone was waiting for AF to show to begin IUI in the next couple of days?

AF is due for me on Sunday so hoping that by Monday we'll be on the IUI bandwagon

How are you feeling about it? I go from highs of feeling +ve and excited to lows of thinking its not going to work ekkk! I need to get some serious PMA before I begin x

    Hi loopy.

I had my planning appt. On Thursday, period started Friday morning so started injecting on sat morning so have scan booked for Friday lunch time, can't believe its all happening so quickly. If everything good at scan I could be having insemination a week today! Injections are fine and no side effects so far. How are u getting on?

The only thing I have noticed is that period has stopped completely...no spotting or anything. So I have had a 3 day period. Usually it would last about 4 or 5 days and then about 3 days of spotting. Not sure if that's a side effect of drugs?

Hi MrsTibby I just rang the clinic to book in my scan for tomorrow and they could only fit me in today! So getting all nervous now, I've got to rush from work back home, to the clinic and then straight to uni so its going to be a massive rush!

I'm a bit worried about having a scan on CD2 as its obviously time of the month, any tips?? I wish I knew this last night as I could have prepare myself ekkk! x

Hi loopy, dont worry about the scan and it being cd2. I had mine on cd3 for my ivf. I just wore a tampon until i got there, then a few minutes before i was called for appointment took it out and wore a towel. I took some tissue/toilet roll with me and just kept hold if it so I had it there straight away. They will give you tissues etc after they have done the scan aswell. The nurses dont bat a eyelid at the blood etc, they will have seen it many times before.

Hi shaz247uk thanks so much for the response I was womdering about the towel/tampon situation and wasn't sure what was the best to do??

I'll be glad when this one is out of the way, the others will seem like a walk in the park then lol x

I only have to have that early scan during period on my subsequent iui's so that they can check if ovaries are back to normal after previous cycle. How come u have to have one in first cycle?

Hi MrsTibby, I' not sure tbh I think it is standard practise in the clinic that I am in x

    Loopy,

You feeling anything yet? Apart from injections (which aren't nearly as bad as I thought) I feel nothing. I could almost forget that I'm even going through all this. Which is a good thing...just hoping that the drugs are working and things are growing. We shall soon find out, scans on Friday.

    Hi MrsTibby,

When I went to the clinic on Monday for my CD2 scan they said that they scan you on CD2 to check your ovaries and to make sure that there are no cysts because when you have IUI I think sometimes it can show up fluid on the ovaries that could be mistaken for cysts but are perfectly normal. Well that's my understanding of it all lol!

Good luck for your scan on Friday I hope all goes well. I have my scan on Monday, like you I'm dying to know if it's all working as it should.

I've had a few sleepless nights so feeling shattered today, not sure if that is due to the drugs or due to my cold or just me thinking about IUI when I wake up at night. I've also been feeling sick (like when you're hungry) but again that could be due to the drugs or my cold.

I keep wondering how they work out the dosage of drugs that you take? I assume its to do with your AMH? My dose seems pretty low so then I'm wondering if it's enough lol!

I was feeling really +ve about this cycle and then DH came home last night and told me that his best friend's wife is 3 months pregnant and they've only just started ttc. So I had a bit of a cry and still feeling a bit rubbish even though I'm happy for them but I've determined to have a rest tonight and shake off any -ve worries about it not working.

I hope you are doing well, the time seems to be dragging for me. Have you told anyone you're going through IUI? We haven't yet, don't know what to do. My parents know that we are having trouble conceiving and I did mention to my mum a while ago that we were thinking of trying IUI but I haven't said anything since. We're going to my parents for the weekend and I'm worrying where I can keep my drugs as one of them is supposed to be kept in a fridge. I was thinking the boot of my car, if not I'll have to tell my mum but part of me wants to keep it a secret because if we were lukcy enough to get a BFP I would love to surprise them.

Apologies for the massive post  x

    Hi loopy,

A number of my friends and my mum know what's going on. I stupidly told my friends that I was trying thinking it would happen straight away and now obviously they realise its three and a half years later and still no baby so it doesn't take rocket science to work out what's going on. I also find it very good to talk everything through so my close friends and mum have been a big

support. Although u do feel everyone waiting with baited breath for good news.

I asked nurse about how they come up with dosage, she said consultant works it out on age, history, fsh and amh.

Both of mine I have to keep in fridge. Went away at weekend to a hotel with no fridge so took ice packs! It was a pain. Feel quite postive about it working but worried about things staying in there. After two miscarriages on clomid that's what worries me the most.

  • Options
MrsTibby I hope you have a super sticky bean very soon hun.

Can I ask what type of icepacks did you take? My parents have a lot on their plate at the moment with other things so I think I would prefer to keep the IUI a secret tbh. I have only told one of my friends but the last time I spoke to her it was before I had started IUI so she doesn't know that we have officially started the process.

I was going to tell a few other people but I didn't mention it at the start and as time kept going on and on I started worrying that it wouldn't happen so kept quiet. I'm glad I did now though as there are babies everywhere in work at the moment and everyone keeps asking me when we are going to start ttc??? My parents, SIL and MIL knows about our issues though.

I am a little worried about it working for us as we haven't even had a whiff of a BFP in all the time we've been TTC. DH has low morphology too (it was 2%) so in my head I'm trying to work out how can there possibly be enough good swimmers for the insemination? Although all his other levels are ok and the specialist seems quite +ve about it.

Good luck for Friday let me know how you get on. Have they given you any indication as to when you are likely to be having the insemination? I'm hoping our will be a week Friday x

    Hi loopy,

I used those blue plastic rectangle ones. I didn't put drugs right next to them tho. I got all my stuff in a bag that's like a cool bag so I put them in there with with the ice block thing. Could u perhaps put them in parents fridge in a little cool bag or tupawear? They may not even notice.

If everything is good tomorrow I think insemination happens Monday.

I didn't have any success at all until Clomid. Have u been on Clomid? Remember that iui is putting those little swimmers exactly where they they need to start swimming so u are really giving them a good start.

It's the 2ww I'm dreading...its usually hard enough, but this time round will be torture!

If u have a good friend who u can off load onto and won't come back with the response 'just relax...it will happen', I would encourage u to tell someone what u are going through....not because they will give u answers but I find it calms me down to get my thoughts out, so they are not rattling round my head driving me crazy!

Hi MrsTibby what day of your cycle will it be on Monday? Good luck for tomorrow I hope all goes really well.

I might try and put the things in a tupawear box and try and get away with hiding it in the back of my mum's fridge. Won't be surprised if she notices though. My parents have a fridge in the garden shed too so I was even thinking about trying to snipe outside

I haven't been on clomid, the clinic I am in doesn't think there is any point in taking clomid if you're ovulating. I'm dreading the 2ww too, I've just ordered a Zita West relaxation CD to see if that will help.

TBH I don't think my hubby likes me discussing our problems with my friends. He doesn't mind me telling my Mum though so I may have to tell her at some stage, I was hoping to keep the first one quiet though.

I''ve just got the time off work for Monday so at least that's something. I'm not sure what will happen for me after Monday I'm assuming I'll have to perhaps go back on Wednesday? As Monday is only CD9 for me.

Good luck, I'll eagerly wait for an update from you tomorrow x

    Hi loopy,

Good idea with the outside fridge...although u don't want your mum catching u injecting out in the shed....she.might jump to conclusions! I will be cycle day 11 on Monday...that's the earliest the nurse said that can expect iui to take place. It all happens v quickly once u get started doesn't it!

    Will update tomorrow on progress!

    MrsTibby,

Yes injecting in the shed might cause alarm bells to ring

I emailed the clinic this morning to ask about the injections. She said that its fine to keep them in the boot of my car in a cooler bag.

I also asked when my next scan after Monday will be? (Monday is CD9) for me and she said the following 2-4 days and that's if I even need one. So I could be having IUI on CD11 so what you said must be right. CD11 seems pretty early though, I don't usually ov until CD16.

Yes its all seems to be moving quickly now, I'm starting to get excited ekk! Good luck for tomorrow again, keeping my FC for you x
