Conceiving naturally with slightly low morphology & motility
Hi Girls
We had the first appointment with the male specialist today.
V brief explanation of history - looks like I'm all ok (though slightly irregular periods) and we've just found out OH has ok sperm levels (20 million so borderline) and slightly low motility (35% when it should be 50%) and mophology (25% when it should be 50%). We were told there's nothing to worry about and we should conceive naturally, but we're having a few more tests done just in case (hormonal for him). He had testicular cancer so has one testicle but apparently that won't make any difference, especially as he had no other treatment for it.
I know that some of you were or are in similar situations to me and am interested to hear what you've done, or (for those ex-lttcers) whether you conceived naturally or with help. Did any of you conceive or know people who conceived naturally when the only 'problem' seemed to be the quality of sperm?
My OH is on Wellman Multivitamins, has been told to give up alcohol (had pretty much anyway) and eats fairly healthily so I think we're doing most of the correct things, especially as our stress has been lowered as we're both trying to work from home. The only naughty thing he's done recently is go in hot spas as we went to Iceland but we both figured it was an opportunity not to be missed!
Thanks for your help,
Lucy x

I can't advise as I'm not quite there yet, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad your appointment went well. It all sounds quite positive for you, which is great news. And you're certainly doing all the right things with the vits, alcohol abstinence, lowered stress levels etc. I wouldn't worry too much about the hot spas - you can't go to Iceland and not indulge a little! And I'm sure as a one-off it wouldn't have a major effect on your OH swimmers.
I think a couple of ex-ltttc'ers have conceived naturally with low motility/morphology - I know Kayecee is one of them. I hope someone is able to give you some more advice.
Good luck! x
a) Wearing loose boxers - stops the testicles getting too warm, bad for swimmers
b) Vitamins containing selenium - helps sperm motility (my hubby's was only 16% before hand). He took Tesco's multivitamins as they actually had more selenium in than wellmans and far cheaper!
c) Brazil Nuts - handful a day they are high in selenium too!
d) Zestica spray - we used this when we BD as it helps the sperm's motility. Only used it for the first time the month we got our BFP. You can buy it on amazon.
I am:
a) Taking evening primrose and starflower oil capsules (Tesco) for the first 14 days of my cycle. I have irregular cycles too and these oils are meant to help regulate your cycle and make you ovulate. Only used these for the first month when we got our BFP!
b) Turned CBFM back on as its really the only way I know when I am ovulating as I can ovulate anywhere between cd 18-40!
We both significantly reduced our alcohol intake too. Good luck sweetie!

Muffin - will look into his vitamins - he's on the wellness conception ones so presumed they were fine. I also bought Zestica but forgot to use it last month! D'oh. I do take those oils plus my homeopath recommended Black Cohosh which has helped bring my cycles down - if you want more info let me know as it may help you too.
I suppose I must just learn to be patient but 18 months (though fewer cycles) later it's getting annoying - I could've been pregnant twice in that time!x
