Update - PCOS

Hi All

Firstly thanks very much for your very warm welcome - i already feel like i know so many of you!

Just to let you know that i went for my results on Wednesday - my GP said she was 99.9% sure i had PCOS but was sending me to a gyno for a second opinion! How she can say that she is 99.9% sure i have it and then to say she is going to send me for a second opinion is beyond me and incredibly frustrating!- i've now got to wait another 6 weeks or so for an appointment and probably have to have all the tests done again!

I asked her about SA and she said OH would have to make an appointment which he has done - OH seems to think he has to go doctors to then be referred to fertility specialists and they do the SA - it this correct - i just thought he could do it at the doctors.

Finally - i bought a CBFM and sticks a few months ago and haven't started using them yet - i haven't had a AF in almost 3 months now - does anybody think it is worth starting to use them yet - i assume as i haven't had AF i'm not ovulating and therefore no point in starting to use it - but i may be wrong here.

Thanks Ladies
x

Oh and has anybody ever heard of both ovaries being on the same side - apparently both my ovaries are on one side although seperate!

    Hi suzannah,

I think your doctor is just being causios, if you have had a blood test and scan then it is probably conclusive and you would need to see a specialist anyway so they will just confirm when you go I suspect. They will more than likely send you for another set of blood tests and some times they take swabs like a smear to check there are no infections.

With regard to your oh, i think it depends on your doctor, if they havent said anythin then i would take him with you when you go and see the consultant, you will be asked lots of questions about your cycles, lifestyle, other children, and general health.
Oh will more than likely be sent for sa by the consultatant and you will probably be sent for a scan of your tubes (hsg). This seems to be the general rule of thumb on a first visit.

CBFM is not very accurate when you have pcos because you can still have signs of ovulation but not acutally ovulate, this is because the body is preparing to release an egg so fsh should still rise but the follicle will not mature enough to release. It is your fsh level that the cbfm monitors. (i think)

I have pcos too, i found out in March and have just started treatement in the form of a table that should make you ov, clomid, unfortunatley it was not a high enough dose this time so will have to get a higher dose for next month.

Good luck and if you have any questions, no matter how silly they may sound, please just ask xxx

    Louby-

Do you have to go back to the hospital to get a higher dose of Clomid? I am starting on 50g this month but have a worry that it wont make me have an AF after it so think I will be back to square 1 again.

I spoke to the hospital about what I needed to do if I didnt get AF after 1 cycle of clomid and they were bit vague about whether I needed to go back to the hospital or gp as they have written to my gp too to day I can have a higher dose of clomid.

Would I need to take provera again?

hi chick not in your situation with the PCOS but just wanted to say good luck to yuo, my OH has had to do all SA's in the hospital but like LL said I think it varies from one places to another, they have to be inspected by a specialist so even if he does 'deposit' at drs would have to be sent off any way and I htink it is better to 'deposit' in hos as can go straight to the testing guys (or gals)

    Good luck x

    Hi Billie,

Sorry for the delay, not been on much this wk. Yes I have to go back to see my consultant for higher dose. Im not sure if your doctor presribes it or not, I got my next appoinment with my first lot of clomid.
I too wonder if I will get AF naturally but assume if it doesnt come and im not pg then i would need provera again.
    Hope this helps xx
