S/A antisperm antibodies and motility

Hi Ladies,
Wondering if anyone can help. My hubbie has now had 2 s/a and neither were good.

1st one:
count 14 million
motility 49%
morphology 12% normal
agglutination present
antisperm antibodies 0% binding

2nd one:
count 45 million
motility 10%
morphology 13% normal
agglutination present
antisperm antibodies 90% binding

We only chatted briefly to cons and he said it was odd how count had increased but motility gone way down. I also noticed the 90% antisperm antobodies and agglutination....which does not sound good.

Does anyone know anything about any of this?

I am a bot worried because at the bottom of the report it says 'IVF as minumum recommended'.

We have to wait for another month until we see the consultant properly now.... Thanks for any help, advice, or reassurance anyone can offer xx

Havent got a clue what it means we have just handed our SA in yesterday. Hubbie is convinced it is his swimmers causing the problem. I am surprised at the difference in the two results, can you go and get some advise from your GP in the interim?

Yes it's bizarre isn't it. Wondering if some of the vitamins have helped with the count...but doesn't explain the terrible motility figure...
May chat to GP, good idea, although not too hopeful they will have a clue about any of it. No disrespect, but I just don't think GP's can generally give accurate advice about such specialist issues. And, I don't want to receive inaccuaret info as it will just worry me even more. Think I'm going to try to stay positive and just relax a bit for the next month until appt....not sure that will be possible but going to try!
Lots and lots of luck for your hubbie's sa hon. Really hope there isn't a problem for you too xx

I definitely agree TBD with what you said about GPs. After my hubby's first SA our GP gave the result that his test was 'normal'. It was only when we saw the consultant he said that technically, yes, the count was normal (22ml so only just) but everything else was pants ('scuse the pun!). Motility was just 7%. We were told (this was in June) that we had to assume on these figures that we would not conceive naturally.

Anyway, by some miracle we conceived in July and hubby did his second SA 6 days later (obviously we didn't know that at the time) and the results were even worse (count had decreased to 15 ml)! The consultant pretty much said SA results are not necessarily a true reflection of what's going on. The artificiality of the collection of the specimen can cause hugely skewed results. Not sure if that helps - hope it does! xxx

Thanks again kayecee. It's so nice to hear your positive story and I just hope and pray that we may have the same luck as you..... Kind of seems pointless doing the tet in a way....but I guess if all comes out well on the s/a then it really really must be ok, whereas if it comes out bad then I guess it tells them there's a possibility things are not good, but not a definite answer.
I'm so gutted as I'd really hoped that having the tests done would have just given me the reassurance to just keep trying and not worry about it - but instead I am now petrified and saving up for IVF! xx

Now, I'm going to sound like somebody I would've liked to have smashed in the face about 6 weeks ago BUT I'll go ahead and say it anyway...You know the whole 'relaxing' thing people go on about? Well, it kind of worked. Because we had the 'security' of being referred for IVF at the end of July we went off on hols, no CBFM, no OPKS, no temps - just bd'd when we fancied it (which I don't even think was on ov day). Maybe you should take a month 'off' in that respect? Possibly even get away for a few days? Feel free to cyber smash me in the face

he he! That made me smile, which is amazing considering I've just spent the past hour crying my eyes out. I agree with what you're saying though. I have been thinking of having a month off and trying to relax. Just not convinced I can actually do it. I think if we had the security, as you say, of knowing we'll be referred for IVF i'd feel better. But the reality is we don't know what the cons will say about that, I'm too young to receive it on the NHS for another 4 yrs, and my hubbie doesn't want to do that until we've given it more of a chance...and god knows how long that will be. Sorry for moaning!! I don't feel like smashing you in the face! Because I think you're right, just not sure how on earth to relax about it all........ Hoping hubbie and I will fancy some spontaneous BD though after 2 weeks of abstinence before my hycosy and his s/a, and if that's the case I will feel more able to stop all the other atuff. Still used my cbfm today though....couldn't stop myelf! Cheers hon xx

No probs. Don't get my wrong - of course I THOUGHT about ttc and thought 'what if..?' but just less than usual. When was your hycosy again. I swear my HSG (which I think is v similar) got us our BFP x

That's good to know. I get scared by the idea of *not thinking* about TTC - just sounds impossible to me. But think I could relax a bit about it. I had my hycosy done yesterday! I posted separately about it, but think it's got lost along with my other million posts last night! All was fine, 'textbook' apparently. So I am also hoping helps us. You got a mention in that post as well! xx

    Hi Ladies,
sorry to gatecrash!! I was just wondering what SA was? My OH went to give his sperm sample the other day as we're having problems conceiving, I was wondering if it was linked to that? :S
thanks, and sorry again for gatecrashing!! xxx

Hi vickski. SA stands for 'sperm analysis' so yes it is! Don't apologise...it takes ages to get used to all the acronyms! Good luck with your hubbie's SA - hope it's better than mine! x

Thanks tinybabydancer! To be honest, I'm really new to all this and don't totally understand it all yet. I hope his sperm is ok as I was told this morning that I'm not ovulating, so one of us needs to be working properly!!!
Hope it happens for you soon xxxx

Aw vickski, must have been awful getting that news. Do you get regular cycles then? Or just no periods?
It is all confusing, but you will be an expert in no time by coming on here! Although, hopefully you won't be in this forum for too long!
Really hope sa is ok....I agree it's nice to know that one of you is 'working properly'! But even if it's not ok, there is plenty that can be done about it....that's what I keep trying to remind myslef anyway xx

Thanks hun, it really is confusing business! I'm getting so angry at the mo, which I know really isn't going to help things! I get really regular periods, 28/29 day cycle, always have done, which is why I was so shocked. I honestly didn't realise you could have periods and not ovulate, I thought that was the whole point!!
Thanks again for your lovely words, I'll be keeping an eye out for your posts. As you said, there's lots that can be done, and then as we've seen for some people, it just 'happens' sometime. xxx

Hi again vickski, that must be such a shock when you have regular periods. I guess maybe the month you had the test may have just been a one-off when you didn't ov (which many women get apparently). Are you getting ovaries scanned etc as well? Good luck xx

    hi Vickski

I just wanted to say your not on your own, i too have semi-regular cycles but dont OV. I found it realy confusing that you could have AF with no OV!
If your finding the abbrieveiations confusing there is a post in forum rules that has a list! xxxx
