cot bed sides

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if taking the side off the cot bed is classed as the same as moving to a normal bed? We have the Ikea Leksvik bed where the side can be removed and I'm wondering whether to try it.

    I thought it was the same. We've also got the Leksvik and we'll just be removing the side when the time is right instead of buying a whole new big girl bed straight away.

    our cot bed was one you took the sides off and a small part of the side pannels, its equvilant to a toddler bed now so its lower and smaller than a single, i have a pic of ours on FB
