drinking from sippy cups

My twins are coming up 10 months now & were born at 32 & half weeks, so about 8.5 months adjusted. They're eating quite well now but I just wondered when other's LOs started drinking from ther sippy cups on their own. I've tried them with water & also milk today - they show an interest but mostly just throw the cups around so you get covered in liquid! What age should babies be not using the bottle? Just out of interest.
