work stress since announcing pregnancy - apologies: long!

Hi all,

I'm new to this site, and wondered if anyone else was being put under phenomenal pressure at work since announcing they were pregnant?

I'm currently 28+3 and have what is naturally a busy, varied job across a large organisation, working on a project basis with over 40 projects to support. This is all fine and good, but over the last few months (since announcing my pregnancy), I am being put under increasing pressure to get things done before I go on maternity leave, to the point where I am overloaded, under-resourced and stressed.

I am currently off work with flu, but still receive calls at home regarding work and things that need doing. So far throughout my pregnancy I have suffered with severe morning sickness and migraines, and am on anti-depressants for a long-term illness (for which I was signed off sick for three months last year).

I have inadequate support at work to cover my remit (something I've lobbied to change since appointment 2 years ago, but without success), and there is very much a culture of 'want it now' in my organisation, despite the fact that the nature of my role (specialised) means that a lot of stuff happens unseen and instant results do not necessarily appear.

Now I'm pregnant, colleagues are questioning my competence, and I feel like I am being emotionally blackmailed by colleagues who want as much from me as they can get before I go. My manager is unsupportive, and is undecided about whether there will be anyone appointed for maternity cover in my absence; HR are no better.

I don't know where to turn or what to do - I've got seven weeks left before mat leave starts but I feel like walking away from everything, despite the fact that (financially) I can't afford to. I am delighted to be having my baby girl, whose well-being is the reason I've taken time off when ill so far, but I'm afraid of the effect all this stress is having on her

Help!

What they are doing is totally out of order hun and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. I would give ACAS a call - 08457 47 47 47, explain what's been happening and they'll be able to give yu loads of advice hun. Don't stand for their shit......they're just jealous coz ur gonna be a fab mummy soon!!
