Down Syndrome hallucinations

We have a Down syndrome 12 year old. About two years ago he started getting afraid of dogs and then slowly of all animals. His current situation is he seems to see things which are not there. He will sometimes smile and sometime get very afraid while looking on floor or in air. He has stopped doing any activities and sits at one corner of the house and do nothing. Wonder if anyone else have heard or seen such kind of behaviour?
