starting a business whilst on maternity leave????

Hiya - anyone know whether you can start your own business / self employed work whilst you are receiving stat. maternity pay?

    Not entirely sure, check www.direct.gov.uk for self employed info. I do know that you have 3 months from starting the business to registering it with the inland revenue. Depending how much mat leave you have left it will tie in nicely?
