Where to start with nighttimes?

Spencer is 3yrs+2mths, he's in pants all day every day and rarely has an accident.
He's started to ask why he wears a nappy at night. I honestly don't think he's ready to start training at night, his nappy is absolutely soaked by the morning and he rarely wakes at night to complain about being in a wet nappy or asked to go for a wee.
He wont wee in a potty, he does stand up wees so it would mean leaving his bedroom and going to the bathroom. He's not great at settling himself back to sleep so I'm kinda dreading it!
Any suggestions or advice, please?
