Toddler Talk

Hi All,

I am new to this site and was wondering if any other parents have a toddler that has speech and language problems? My son is 4 and recently had gromits in to help him improve his hearing in order for him to talk better. I was wondering if any parents have any tips or advice for me to improve his speech?

Thank you :)

Yes. My son goes to speech therapy. Have you had a SALT assessment etc?

No, I have not even heard of that before. He has just started to see a speech therapist, think they are doing an assessment on him but it is just taking time.

My friend is a speech therapist specialising in pre schoolers and she says the services available really vary from area to area. Some areas will refer them to group sessions where they practise things together. Other areas it takes ages to get appointments.  Ask the speech therapist for exercises etc that you can do at home together. She says that most children with support will catch up.

Salt is the speech therapist sorry. Chase them up if you have too. My 4 yr old has just started his 2nd block of therapy with her..she works well with him and sends us games/info quite often in the post if she thinks it will help him.

I think the speech therapist has to do a home visit as my son seems to hate any health professional in their working environment. I hope his speech develops soon as he's due to start school and I'm slightly worried.

    Thanks for your help :)
