What is it with ppl a bit of a rant

Hi ladies ill warn this is a bit of a rant but hoping ill feel better afterwards,

Saw some ppl in town today when i was out shopping they were my ex bosses from a small family run chip shop i used to work at when i was still at school and college,

Well they were admiring my daughter and asking about my bump when i was due etc then asked about where i was living who with that sort of thing only because the last time i saw them i had only just found out i was expecting again and had only just been given a council house as was still living with my mum,

Well to get to the point i got the following comments
"Oh isnt she very clean and well dressed" in a shocked manner
"How are you going to cope on your own with two"
"Your mum will be helping you out alot then will she"

I was very taken aback what is it with people and them thinking that because your a single mum your children would be dirty or you cant cope and rely on everyone else, it really gets my back up as im not blowing my own trumpet or anything but im a great mum! My daughter is always fed watered clean and in clean clothes (my washing machine is never off) My house is always clean and tidy i do get comments from friends asking if i actually have a child in the house as its so tidy but its just the way ive been brought up.
It really upset me to think that people expect her to be dirty and the new baby to be looked after more by my mum than me i can say im a stay at home mum my daughter goes to nursery for 3 hrs on a tuesday and friday morning as i wanted her to get used to other children before her little sister arrives and my mum takes her to town for a couple of hrs on a sat morning and an hr on a sunday morning to feed the ducks other than that she is with me 24/7 i dont even let her go with my friends as i dont want ppl thinking "oh she is a single mum so thats why the little one is palmed off here there and everywhere" it has really really upset me.
Has anyone else experienced this?
What do you all think?

Rant over thanks for listening Sophie 36+3 xx

  • Hey Sophie i agree!i own my own house, which is very tidy to the point of me being abit anal, but ive always been like this!will blame my mum shes been a cleaner for yrs!!!!!lol.anyway ive worked since school, never claimed any benefits untill i got pregnant, babies dad walked out on us and done nothing nuch to help since!my little boy is always clean, always tidy and well dressed(everything matches lol)hes always happy and contented and gets tons of love from both me and my mum..who yes does help out alot, and why shouldnt she?but like you i get annoyed by ppls a single mum yet i feel ppl look down on me in a way and they always say oooh i bet your mum helps alot!they probably dont mean anything by it but its just the way it makes me feel!!im 30 so not a young child myself( lol)if i chose the wrong bloke to have a baby with then i guess thats life and hes the one at fault!Dont worry i think alot of ppl have a sterotype in their heads of a single mom and no matter how unfair it may be its their ignorance,so forget them!you know your babies are loved and both will be well looked after so thats all that counts!there my rant now over too lol x
  • Hi, I'm not a single mum but I see no reason for others to look down on those who are.
If anything I think some single parents try even harder to do the best for their kids. I have one friend who as sarahlou said the dad of her kids walked out on her, that was not her fault and tbh she is, and says she is better off without him. (another story!) She is however one of the best mums I know and was actually the person who gave me loads of advice when I had my first lo. Even though she is on her own and has to juggle the kids she has managed to finish uni and is part qualified chartered accountant. People should not sterotype you just could u r single. Some parents that are together do not manage as well as some single parents do.
If people make comments like that are they really worth knowing? I believe that everyone is different and it is not for others to judge.
  • Thanks ladies feeling better about it now had a sleepless night with leg cramps and things so had loads of time to think about it so much so i dont think i have anything more to think about, i do think things seemed worse coz of my hormones as any other time it wouldnt have bothered me would have just taken it with a pinch of salt thanks again ladies Sophie 36+4 xx
