Grandparent Relationships - daughter screaming whenever we visit them

Hi All,

I’m wondering if anyone else is in a similar position and has any advice?!

My 1 year old screams whenever we go to my in-laws. She is normally very confident and happy little girl, she will ‘chat’ to strangers in shops, and she’s been round my friends houses with the partners and met lots of people and never behaved this way. We took her round at the weekend and I had to take her outside because she was beside herself crying! This is the third time since lockdown this has happened.

My mother in law has advanced dementia and loves Esme but doesn’t understand why she cries and tries to comfort her which makes it worse, and my father in law is in a hospital bed in the lounge because he is also unwell. The only thing I can think is that she is either afraid of them, or the hospital equipment or house? They are not fit to travel to visit us so we have to go to them, which is becoming stressful in itself and I so want them to have a relationship with her.

Any advice would be extremely appreciated.
