I think my son got his first pair of glasses at 16 months of age! - We too went in because I thought it was what they called a 'lazy eye' but it turned out he was just far sighted! I knew something was up from birth but they said to just wait and see and that it would sort itself out...it didnt and others started to notice it so I had to get him checked out. Also, its in our family. My DH was born with crossed eyes and has surgery on them at 18 months of age - bless him! - and has worn glasses ever since. So this is a genetic thing for us! DH is just relieved DS does not require surgery...and I am relieved we dont have to fuss about with a patch or anything! hehe

Just remember not to push it! I found once I figured out how to get the glasses on without force or coercion, then it was no big deal. I guess its because DS could see then - then he realised it was best to keep them on! hehe...I waited until he was eating and then slipped them on. Eating was his favourite thing to do then so he was too busy eating to care and did not notice and as his eyes got used to them, he just seemed to forget they were there! We took it day by day though and everyday he wore them more and more. He then went through a phase sometimes around 2.5 years where he didnt want to were them and as they are his eyes, it is his choice - I am not forcing that. So he went for quite awhile without wearing them but then went back to wearing them all the time...in fact, he insists on going to bed with them on! lmao I slip them off if I can but he usually can feel me taking them off and moans at me! hehe...Hes not a crazy sleeping though, his glasses survive it, and I guess if he finds that comfortable its up to him! DH says its so he can see his dreams better! hehe
I think in the end I was more worried than I really had to be. So just relax! I just have to remember they are my sons eyes and change takes time. There will be many different options available to him in the future when he is older.

    hello
my little boy has worn glasses since bein about 12months old and he has never really been bothered about his glasses. The glasses you get for small children have a hook so it doesnt slip off their ear.i have noticed a change since he had the glasses because he can see things.Tyler is also long sighted and his eyes are a +6 the same as his dads.
The lady at the hospital told me not to worry about him taking them off as he wouldnt do it that much as he could see things and yes she was right,he only takes them off when he is tired and needs to rub his eyes.
So you arent the only one with a small child with glasses and i wouldnt worry just see how he gets on ok
any questions dont hesitate to ask charlotte and tyler xxx

hey hun, i worked in an opticians before i started mat leave and there's so many ways of getting children to keep their glasses on and if u get him glasses he'd enjoy wearing e.g. batman or something he'll be more likely to want to wear them...now is the best time for children to wear glasses because they're so young the muscles adjust to the glasses and it rights the problem so try to persevere with them and he'll be fine image x

Hiya no advice sorry but I was just wondering when you should get your child's eyes tested, or do you have it done with the doctor/health visitor or whatever??

Reason I'm asking is my son is 5 months old almost and all our family wear glasses for one reason or another. Both me and his dad need glasses for watching TV and driving because we are a bit short sighted. We both had them at about 14 and I remember from an early age not seeing the board properly from the back of class - lol - obv. hope my son has good eyesight but if he doesn't I don't want him to struggle at school etc!!

hi every1 thanks for ur replies. Tiger lily if you dont notice anything wrong with lo's eyes then there is no need to get them checked. he should have a check when he starts school at about four and if they spot anything they will reffer him.xx

    Hiya

My son has just gone 3 and he wears glasses. He has some from Specsavers with Mr Bump on them, he chose them himself and loves them, so far we haven't had a problem with him messing with them or breaking them etc.

He's been wearing glasses for about 4 months now as he has a squint in one eye caused by him being long sighted and struggling to focus to see things.

His daddy also had to wear glasses and a patch over his good eye when he was about the same age, he still wears glasses now and has really bad eyesight without lenses or glasses.

Casper has to go back for a follow up appointment at the end of this week to see if his glasses have helped and to decide what to do from here. To be honest, since he's got on so well wearing his glasses I'm not going to be bothered if they say he needs to keep wearing them for a bit longer or even permanently.

I know in the long run they are helping him and I have definitely noticed an improvement in his eye(s) since he's been wearing them, also he's less clumsy than he was, he couldn't seem to judge distance and was forever falling over and bumping into things, think that's why he chose the Mr Bump glasses!!

Has Jayden got his glasses now or are they still being made? How's he getting on with them?

Try not to worry too much, he'll get used to having them and might even miss them if he doesn't have to have them for very long.
