It was one of the bits of advice I was given when Isaac was referred to specialist because of his skin. Also to use half the amount of wash powder and include an extra rinse in the cycle. He has his own little wash basket as I wash all his stuff seperatly. I use softener on our stuff. I can only use Fairy too, he reacts to every other powder! xx

honestly some of the stuff in this article were awful, they found traces of animal poo on some items and everything!! for the sake of 30 mins in the wash, i'd rather be safe than sorry! x

well i don't tend to do Evie's stuff either as she will have dirtied it in within 10 mins anyway so washing her new stuff would be a waste of time! xoxo

Mrsjbourne, i am with you all the way!
Did anyone see blood, sweat and t-shirts that was on a while back, a documentary on clothes factories in India & Malaysia (where almost ALL clothes are made). The conditions for work are absolutely minging, let alone their sanitation (hole in ground and no running water). Just think of those (poor) workers sewing our babies clothes......WHAT is on their hands....let alone the floor where they pile them up when they are done...then our babies suck their toes in babygros or sleeves or dresses.....
I wash absolutely EVERYTHING that is bought now....I even washed the free boots changing bag when i got it! (probably obsessive yes)!
Call me mad but believe me, if you had seen this documentary you always would too!
I also think about the other people that may have been touching or trying on clothes in shops or returns etc...and sorry tiger lily, a lot of people are actually dirtier than me! - I carry milton wipes everywhere i go and wipe things down....
    hehe...
    seriously though....

    xx

My mom insisted that Zackys clothes that had been born before he was born were washed before he wore them. This was after she had seen an add in a magazine saying 'new does not mean clean'. As it was her idea she got to do the washing. LOL. My moms daft and will do anything for me LOL.

Had a few second hand stuff which I washed, but no new clothes have been washed since he was a few weeks old.

I still wash all of Zackys things seperately from our though, so not evrything I do is gross and naughty. LOL.

I've seen that advert 'new does not mean clean' and do try to wash everything new and definately everything 2nd hand but I was advised by the person giving me stuff that I should! On the occasions I dont clean new things it's because i'm behind on washing and it's the only things I have.........BUT....she got a rash once from a new top so it's very rare.

I always wash new things - both mine and coles. you don't know what dirty mingy people have been doing to them! Even stuff in packets gets washed - I used to work in woolies and sometimes the state stuff got returned in was pretty icky. Maybe I'm just fussy but i like to know stuff is clean!

Other than those with bad eczema lo's - why do you wash your lo's stuff seperately? Surely that makes for more work?!

To be honest though I don't think many people are THAT dirty...Maybe tramps and people like that lol. But there is no need to wipe everything with milton etc, it's just not natural, germs are natural and most of them are harmless. It annoys me when people think their child is the cleanest child in the world and won't let them near strangers kids just in case they might give them some random germs, who says THEIR kid isnt carrying the same germs, thats what I meant really. Not meaning anyone on here....just i know a few people who wont let their kids near anyone elses etc!!

I have a friend who washes new clothes but I thought it was just her! I'd never heard of doing this before.
I love wearing new clothes before they're washed. I'm not at all worried about germs etc from them.

As for the kids, Nathan spent the day at nursery putting toys in his mouth that have been in all the other kids mouth, then he held on to a swing in a public park, licked some snow (his face was priceless) and finished off the day crawling around the same floor that we including Lauren and her friends have been walking on all day, as well as our cats who have god knows what on their paws. So i think he's much more likely to catch something from any of the above than from his new vest.

I have Eczema and also have never been able to use softner and also find Fairy very good as a washing powder.

I use fairy softener and powder too. Evie goes to nursery and goodness knows what she gets up to there...as least they make sure she washes her hands before dinner. Kyra goes to play groups with me and puts all their toys in her mouth, she never had a tummy bug or been ill from this...I think it makes them stronger. I always think to myself, well what did humans do when they lived in the wild...? They wiped their bums with leaves, then went hunting and fed their babies wild animal meat and they managed to survive...lol xoxox
